moistats_ Ballot for 2019 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 22, 2019, 7:43 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Top 4 seeds are given to teams that have shown the best performance in conjunction with projected chance of making the CFP. The next 10 are those who are notable enough for discussion and eligible for NY6. Note: The rest of the top 10 are given to 1 G5 team, the P5 runner-ups, and any applicable independent schools. If any of those teams are not worthy of the ranking, they will go down to the next tier in lieu of a more deserving team. The remaining 11 are those who have been and should be performing amazing in the season. There is no bias at all (i.e., conference affiliation, athletes, etc. are not used - just who is the best in order in my opinion). As such, no statistical methods are used other than references that may contain data, such as ESPN FPI and Wikipedia.

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers Clemson double blew out Charlotte. They did what they needed to do.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama pretty much did the same thing as last week. As such, the disparity between Clemson and Alabama hasn't changed (although there isn't a lot).
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State pulled off 76 points against Miami (OH), and has blew out every team they faced this season to say the least. OSU belongs in this tier because of their similarity to the other teams in the Top 4 tier..
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma did not compete last weekend. Remains the same
Auburn Tigers Turns out I put Auburn way too low. Auburn convincingly won at Texas A&M, and Oregon thrashed Stanford at their place. I think there is clearly a Georgia/LSU/Auburn tier right below the top 4. Auburn also has two notable wins rather than one.
Georgia Bulldogs As expected, Georgia pulls it off against Notre Dame. I think Georgia and LSU are similar (blew out opponents and has the big win to refer to). Since Notre Dame > Texas imo, Georgia is above LSU.
LSU Tigers See above. LSU washed out Vanderbilt, who is winless.
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin blew out Michigan. Continues their dominance. OSU should watch out.
Boise State Broncos Boise State is the clear G5 leader right now. Has been dominant against all of their opponents.I think this is a good spot to separate the top 4/super close P5 teams for the playoffs and the rest.
Penn State Nittany Lions
Florida Gators Florida remains in this tier because their opponent was Tennessee, and I feel their SoS is not up to par with Georgia/LSU/Auburn just yet.
Oregon Ducks The power of their complementary loss to Auburn. Oregon has looked fantastic to the rest of the teams they faced, and their dub against Stanford showed that.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The loss at Georgia was pretty close but as they say, a loss is a loss. That being said, the teams above showed enough accomplishment to rank above of Notre Dame in the last weekend.
Texas Longhorns I might get hate for this, but I watched Oklahoma State at Texas just to gather information for both teams and this poll...I felt like this win was underwhelming? Nevertheless, I think it was a strong win all things considered and it's enough to have Texas at this ranking.
Virginia Cavaliers Virginia did the expected that is not found in unfamiliar teams in the AP poll, although the win against Old Dominion wasn't pretty. We'll see how they do at Notre Dame.
Iowa Hawkeyes I don't feel all that confident in Iowa, but in all honesty the teams below have done nothing much other than staying defeated/being notable in some way. Iowa still needs that big win.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Is anyone paying attention to Wake Forest?
Kansas State Wildcats  Bye for Kansas State. Nothing happened so they increased (because some teams above did...bad).
Memphis Tigers Same as Kansas State
California Golden Bears The wins at Washington and Ole Miss are not easy tasks to do by any means. However, their wins against North Texas and UC Davis were underwhelming. I have mixed feelings about this team's future. We'll see how it goes against ASU.
Utah Utes ...why can't Utah pull it off at USC.
UCF Knights This might be too big of a punishment on UCF, but in all honesty they should have pulled it off at Pitt. We'll see how the rest of the season goes, because there are some notable American teams for the conference.
Michigan Wolverines My god this team is disappointing. I'm only keeping them here because they have the potential to do much better.
Washington Huskies Same as Michigan.
SMU Mustangs After what happened the past four weeks, especially their win at TCU that is really hard to pull off as their rivalry shoes? Yeah, this team deserves to be ranked.
