Ballot Type: Human
Submitted: Sept. 16, 2019, 11:22 p.m.
Overall Rationale: Top 4 seeds are given to teams that have shown the best performance in conjunction with projected chance of making the CFP. The next 10 are those who are notable enough for discussion and eligible for NY6. Note: The rest of the top 10 are given to 1 G5 team, the P5 runner-ups, and any applicable independent schools. If any of those teams are not worthy of the ranking, they will go down to the next tier in lieu of a more deserving team. The remaining 11 are those who have been and should be performing amazing in the season. There is no bias at all (i.e., conference affiliation, athletes, etc. are not used - just who is the best in order in my opinion). As such, no statistical methods are used other than references that may contain data, such as ESPN FPI and Wikipedia.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Clemson Tigers | Convincingly won against all P5 opponents to date, especially the blowout at Syracuse. Is the clear winner of the ACC, and the only other ranked team in the conference is Virginia. In comparison to the rest of the top 4, they have the most talent and experienced management for the best chance of being national champions.  |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Basically is a case of Clemson, to a lesser extent (not by a lot). |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | This is an unfamiliar tier based on recent years of Ohio State. However, their performances (especially against schools that are well-versed in some particular manner or had the home advantage), were blown out to say the least. These performances are unmatched by a lot of FBS teams. let alone their record. There is also a very favorable schedule, so I could see OSU make the playoffs easily. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | I'm not that confident in Oklahoma in this tier, but other teams simply either have a lower chance or is very unfamiliar in the Top 4 tier. A tough schedule, and there is a good chance the other teams in the Big 12 rise over the top. Oklahoma still has the biggest chance to win in the Big 12, as is tradition.  |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Notre Dame has been hot, but I expect this ranking to go down after their match at Georgia this weekend. Hopefully they prove me wrong. I do think they are the stronger team but Georgia's home advantage will be hard to come over.  |
| UCF Knights | Do I need to explain? UCF is clearly the best G5 team out there, and the closest team is Boise State. Recently in history have been competing with Top 10 teams in many areas (i.e. recruiting, wins, potential).  |
| LSU Tigers | LSU is an exception to the above criteria. The win at Texas was so good, to the extent that they are a Top 10 team as of now.  |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Georgia is scary good like LSU too. The only problem is that they don't have that "WOW" win against a "WOW" team, at least as of now. Tune in on Saturday.  |
| Utah Utes | I need Utah to get a few more wins for them to follow my criteria (i.e., ranked #5-7). I just can't get myself to say that they are better than LSU and Georgia. Unless if they blowout at USC...but that depends on how the other teams do as well.  |
| Wisconsin Badgers | 110 |
| Washington State Cougars | Call me batshit crazy: WSU will be a supercalifragilisticexpialidasties (German)Top 15 team...until the end of the season. Prove me wrong in the end Cougs, please. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Penn State has been thrashing their opponents. Definitely deserving of a Top 15 spot.  |
| Auburn Tigers | I understand this is low for Auburn, but I really need to see the result at Texas A&M first. I don't know how Oregon will turn out. It's too early to call still. |
| Florida Gators | Same as Auburn, except I've been less confident of their performances recently in terms of scores (and by the same token, strength of schedule). The above teams have been doing better in that aspect in my opinion. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan needs to get it together...like now, or at least on Saturday. Clearly have the potential to get up there. I know it has been an issue for this university to be Top 4 again.  |
| Boise State Broncos | Boise State doing the usual. Again I'm sorry about our performance in the MW. We did the thing in women's golf and soccer. |
| Oregon Ducks | Oregon had a good loss, and I think they are the exception of going 2-1. to place in Top 20. Especially based on their recent performances. |
| Texas A&M Aggies | Texas A&M has the same case as Oregon. |
| Virginia Cavaliers | There's been a weird pattern for whenever non-historically relevant teams get ranked, they eventually fall short. That (almost) didn't happen against Florida State. I have faith in this team and Bronco is putting in work. .I just can't put them higher based on my criteria because it's just so unfamiliar for UVa. |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | Iowa got a good ass win at Iowa State, but they need to do more if they want to go higher. The other programs they beat aren't WOAHWOWOMG. |
| Texas Longhorns | I've been on the edge of putting Oklahoma State or Kansas State in this ranking, but Texas performed extremely well in the last season, and the two mentioned teams didn't (OkSt did good, but not up to par of T25). If OkSt pulls it off on Saturday, this ranking will go to them. I'm just not as confident in Texas as I was last year.  |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | Wake has been looking great, and they have wins against teams that have been doing great or blew them out. .I think they are more deserving of a Top 25 berth than Cal, U-Dub, ASU, and TCU (see Wyoming's explanation).  |
| Kansas State Wildcats | My god that was a good ass win at Mississippi State. Let alone their two other blowouts. Good enough.  |
| Memphis Tigers | Memphis looks so hot right now in terms of results, and that win against Ole Miss was scary good in spite of Ole Miss might being bad in the SEC. A win against a P5 program (at least most) is not an easy task. |
| Wyoming Cowboys | This is my really REALLY wild pick, and in comparison to the other teams in the current AP poll (Washington, California, Arizona State, and TCU), I think Wyoming has been performing better in most if not all departments mentioned above. I'll just need to say this: The Mizzou win is looking a lot better as time goes on. The other teams mentioned beat ranked teams that I personally think exposed more of them rather than the ones who beat them. Except TCU, where I think they need more time. Ya'l better not let me down at Tulsa.  |
