hokies220 Ballot for 2019 Week 4

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 15, 2019, 2:30 a.m.

Overall Rationale: No predictive or preseason element, not quite a computer poll because I don't have that big of grading set and do it by hand. And overturn anything that seems super aberrant. SoS is a big part, anywho it's a work in progress still a few weeks in. As always I'll never have two teams from the same conference in the top 4 since those games will be settled on the field.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes Most overall points, big conference win on the road. Both of their wins won too
Alabama Crimson Tide 2nd most overall points, also with a big conference win on the road.
Clemson Tigers Third most overall points, also with a big conference win on the road. I feel like this is getting repetitive..
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Seventh most overall points, but each of the B1G, ACC(shocking I know), and SEC had two teams ahead and those games would eventually be decided before end of season.
Iowa Hawkeyes Fourth most overall points. Rivalry win on the road in classico el assico fashion, but really a bit overrated here I think.
Auburn Tigers Fifth most overall points also would say they're overrated this high.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sixth most overall points, beating a P5 team with multiple P5 wins was a big boost this week, and yet again I'd say their overrated here.
LSU Tigers Five way tie for 8th most overall points. Dropped slightly because FCS games don't count.
Florida Gators Five way tie for 8th most overall points. Behind LSU, but ahead of KSU because I think Texas>Kentucky>Miss St in wins.
Kansas State Wildcats Five way tie for 8th most overall points.
Wisconsin Badgers Five way tie for 8th most overall points. Slightly too high still due to MoV component, or maybe not. I'd believe an argument for 11th being totally fine for Wisconsin.
Utah Utes Here's where the human aspect of my poll comes in. BYU was actually here tied at 8th overall points. But I believe head to head when both teams have identical records( or the team that won has less losses) the winning team should be ranked higher. Also, I consider BYU G5 so beating two P5 teams gives them a slight boost. So I switched Utah and BYU because it feels right to do.
Georgia Bulldogs Pretty damn solid win even if it is just Arkansas State. Underrated here for sure, but FCS game doesn't count for points.
Memphis Tigers This is where things get muddled a little bit but oh well.
Virginia Cavaliers Surprisingly four ACC teams are in my top 20. No idea how good UVA actually is. Or anyone outside of Clemson in the entire conference.
UCF Knights Offense really lit it up. Would've been so more impressive had it happened last week though. UCF is underrated here IMO.
SMU Mustangs Three FBS wins and decent MoV's are keeping them here. Go Mustangs I guess! But here's a good lesson in winning being the most important, but SoS being right behind it because OU didn't make the cut for having a terrible SoS that makes SMU's mediocre appear so much better on these stats.
North Carolina Tar Heels Quality loss on the road to..Wake Forest. Not even saying it sarcastically at this point in the season.
Texas Longhorns Behind UNC for having, probable, worse wins, and a slightly worse loss on paper. I definitely think LSU is a better team than WF though, but trying to eliminate as much bias as I can.
Arizona State Sun Devils Nice P5 win on the road.
Kentucky Wildcats Another situation like with Utah-BYU in my rankings, except with EMU. EMU got a nice road win over an undefeated P5 team which helped as well as having a better loss since obviously Florida > Kentucky. Rankings are weird.
Boise State Broncos No points change this week as Marshall won, but FSU lost.
BYU Cougars Basically see the Utah description, I don't actually think BYU is a top 25 team, but my points system says otherwise.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Sneaking in here.
Eastern Michigan Eagles Technically had more points than Kentucky, but being G5 gives them a small bonus for beating P5 teams. I chose Kentucky over MSU and Wyoming as they were tied in points, but the EMU factor tipped the scales in the Wildcats favor.
