Miami_da_U Ballot for 2018 Week 5

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 24, 2018, 5:07 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Tua is the truth, and ultimately they played better vs Texas A&M than Clemson did. Honestly they've been nothing short of dominant. And honestly they don't have even the slightest chance of losing until November. They have shown they're the best team.
Clemson Tigers I had them at 1 up until now because they have the most talented DLine in the country, have a crap load of talent just like Bama, and they showed they can beat a solid team in A&M. But Then Bama played them and looked much better. And Honestly Clemson should have played better vs GTech imo.
Georgia Bulldogs They have a solid win vs South Carolina and Mizzou (who actually kept up with them pretty well last game). So bout what you'd expect from UGA. I just simply think Bama and Clemson are more talented. And while I think Fromm is great, Tua and Trevor Lawrence are the real deal as well, so even if I were to err on the side of the QB talent, Clemson/Bama are still as good (Clemson cause Lawrence is a true frosh) or better (Bama with Tua, is just bad for CFB lol).
LSU Tigers Based solely on their wins, they probably deserve to be #1, if everyone is being honest with themselves. However I think while they are very talented, I think Bama, Clemson, UGA, and tOSU, are clearly more talented. and when it comes to the QB situation, they are again, CLEARLY worse than all those teams plus Oklahoma. I still don't trust that they wont lose a game they shouldn't, but they have the defense to get them to the CFP, and thats crucial. They got Ole Miss next who I would have ranked 25 if I were able to, So this would be another quality win if they do it. Literally if they can win 3 or 4 of their next 5 games, that will be damn impressive. Easily the top SOS so far imo.
Ohio State Buckeyes Well that close win vs TCU where they honestly didn't look so good isn't quite as good of a win anymore. And the rest of the teams they've played, they did what we all thought they would. At the end of the day they are one of the top 5 more talented teams in the country. I don't think they've been quite as sharpe as they should be. But they have a hesiman candidate at QB and I think they're gunna handle PSU pretty well. After that its just playing up to expectations till Michigan.
Oklahoma Sooners OT with army is not a good look especially coming off a 10pt win vs ISU that they didn't really play up to par after the first qtr. Luckily Texas is playing well so they have a chance for a strong win in the next two weeks to keep them top 6. I just don't think they SOS is good enough to warrant being above any of the top 5 teams, when they are also undefeated. But they got a really good qb, and thats a huge advantage they have over LSU and the teams 7-13 on this ranking.
Auburn Tigers The loss to LSU isn't bad at all considering it was a game winning field goal, even though it was at home. But Stidham has not played up to expectations at all imo. He played solid vs Washington, which is still a very good win on their record, but he doesn't have a very good YpA (7.4) or TD% (3% with an INT% of 2%). Ultimately I think their win vs Washington and close loss to LSU is more impressive than ND, but I'll guarantee they'll move down a spot this week once Stanford or ND win. One of them will move above AU for at least a week. AU has a good SOS so far though, so they can always move back up.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The change at Qb was necessary and I think will pay off for sure. Stanford is going to be a tough game for them though. This is going to be a just hard nosed football game I think. I think ND's biggest weakness is elite athleticism, and luckily for them I think that's also Stanfords as Oregon showed. Whichever team makes the fewest mistakes might win. I think Stanford is a better team than Michigan though, and that was a close one. And Stanford just got tested by Oregon so they'll be ready to go.
Stanford Cardinal Their win over Oregon is good, but not as good of a win as ND has. I think they NEED to get Bryce Love going. He just has not been even close to the same player as last year. But he can really hurt ND. Top Defense making a QB on his 2nd start make mistakes and a heavy dose of Love can get them this win. Ultimately I expect Stanford to win this and jump up to 7 next week, as I think David Shaw is the superior coach, and in a game like this it'll come down to coaching.
Penn State Nittany Lions So far they've just out-talented their opponents. I wasn't impressed with their win over App St, And even this game vs Illinois was very close until the 4th qtr where PSU far superior talent took over. The problem with that is they are not more talented than tOSU. I expect a heavy dose of the run game with Miles Sanders. And they're lucky Bosa is out. McSorely has a disappointing ypa and Comp% but his TD% is solid. He's gotta give his best game to win this one.
Miami Hurricanes the football Gods have answered our prayers as it FINALLY looks like Mark Richt is going to make the change at Qb (from Rosier to Nkosi Perry!) every single Miami fan has been hoping for since last season. Don't let the final score and MOV fool you, Miami dominated FIU on Saturday and while the 1st unit was in the score was 31-0 and FIU was held to 2 yards or less on just about every play the first 3 quarters. The reason the score was close is because they were playing all their Freshman and 3rd/4th stringers in the 4th quarter to get them experience for later in the season when they may be needed due to injuries (something the coaches said they failed at last season). Perry provided that Spark offensively that Miami has been missing, and he looked very good and is a way more talented passer than Rosier, and he did it all without his 2 best WRs - Ahmmon Richards who is still out since the LSU game, and Jeff Thomas who sat out for dehydration after his PRTD got called back. Its an exciting time to be a Miami fan without Rosier as the QB.
West Virginia Mountaineers They haven't proven themselves or anything, but Will Grier is the truth. and Elite QB play in CFB will get them a bunch of wins. They have the talent offensively. They got a tough game with TTech on the Road. I don't think I'll have them rise much higher than this until they play that guantlet to end the season.
Washington Huskies Close loss to Auburn. Close win vs an ASU team thats pretty solid, as they did beat MSU. And now they play a BYU team that upset Wisconsin. I don't think they're as talented of a team as a Miami, PSU, or Michigan. But they are well coached, and I don't think they are going to lose games they shouldn't. Oregon and Stanford will be good tests.
Wisconsin Badgers Good road win vs a solid-good Iowa team. But that BYU loss at home is just bad. Easy game vs Nebraska coming up, but they better not overlook them like they did BYU just because they have Michigan on the horizon.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan fans are hoping ND woops Stanford this week to make their loss pretty good, especially since they were on the Road for it in week 1.They got an easy game coming up, but I think Maryland is a trap game with Wisconsin the week after and coming off a bye.
Oregon Ducks I was really impressed with their game vs Stanford. If it wasn't for a handful of really bad plays I think they played much better and would have won. But ultimately even though everything went wrong they still had a shot and failed. They do have what is certainly one of the best QBs in CFB though. And with Herbert leading the way, they have a chance to win the P12. Cal is a good team (would be top 30 in my ranking) with 2 p5 noncon wins (i'm including byu as one). And its gunna be P12 at night, where anything happens. They better not overlook Cal because they have Washington after.
UCF Knights They Simply have a horrible SOS, and their game vs UNC even got cancelled which is bad luck. MOV is going to be important for UCF to move up for my polls. Is that being biased against G5 teams? Yes. I mean maybe UCF is one of those few G5 teams that truly are elite - they were great last year, but I'm not going to rank them high this early in the season. They'll have to prove it again before they get ranked higher by me.
Kentucky Wildcats Well I really did not see this ranking coming at all. I don't think UF is good but winning on the road there is still difficult. But now an impressive home win vs Miss St. And now they have South Carolina and A&M next which will be a good test. Those are the games that keep you a top 25 team.
Texas Longhorns No Texas isn't back. But they're on their way. Two good wins in a row. Still not enough to erase that loss to Maryland at home. USC has been extremely dissapointing so that win is just meh now. Oklahoma is the real test. But they better not be caught slipping by Kansas state who has lost to Miss St and WVU - two good teams. Kansas St on the road wont be an easy win
Texas A&M Aggies look they've played the top 2 teams in the country with 2 of the best defenses in CFB. And I gotta say they played Clemson pretty close and much better than I would have expected. And while they were dominated by Bama, they did manage to move the ball on them. Kellen Mond has a lot of potential. I have a feeling they're going to be really underrated this year.
Duke Blue Devils ACC is not looking so hot, but Dukes undefeated though they haven't done much. They've got it pretty easy until november when they play Miami and Clemson. They've easily beat their opponents though including an Army team that just took Oklahoma to OT. David Cutcliffe is a good coach and usually has them playing well. However they aren't nearly as talented as teams ranked higher then them, which is a big disadvantage.
BYU Cougars Win vs Wisconsin is very impressive. Loss to Cal isn't the worst thing in the world. But now is the big prove it game. I do not expect a win. But if they can keep it really close and even outplay Washington a few quarters on the road, that'll be impressive enough to keep their spot.
Mississippi State Bulldogs This is more of a predictive ranking. They have Auburn, LSU, and A&M ahead of them. I won't be surprised if they win 2 of those. Ithink they KSU win isn't solid. Kentucky loss is bad, but maybe Kentucky isn't bad. If we're going to rank Kentucky high off the back of their win vs Miss St, it must be because we all think Miss St is a solid team.
Syracuse Orange I'm putting them here because they are undefeated and As bad as FSU has been, FSU was clearly more talented still, and the Orange handled them with ease. I think they have a real shot at an upset even though Clemson will be wanting revenge. I think Syracuse will play well. I think they can beat a good team. I don' tthink they can win consistently though.
Texas Tech Red Raiders They have a good win vs OKSt, but the only reason I have them at 25 is because for some reason it won't let me put Ole Miss in. Idk why they don't appear in the SEC list, probably because they have a bowl ban?
