Ghost_of_Dude Ballot for 2017 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 23, 2017, 11:34 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I rank the teams that I think are best, period. NEXT TEN OUT: Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Boise State, LSU, Michigan, Navy, Iowa, Arizona, Fresno State, Louisville. DROPPED OUT: Michigan, Iowa.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama is bashing the fuck out of every team they face right now.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia got to relax this week and prepare for Florida. Auburn looks to be the only possible speed bump on their way to the SEC Championship as an undefeated team, though they shouldn't overlook Florida, a team they consistently struggle against.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State thoroughly spanked Michigan. Their biggest game of the year is this weekend against the Buckeyes, who have been on fire since their loss to Oklahoma, though against weak competition. A lot of questions will be answered after Saturday.
TCU Horned Frogs It may have been Kansas, but holding any FBS team to only 21 yards of offense is an incredible feat. This is a very good looking football team.
Ohio State Buckeyes The Buckeyes have an off week to prepare for the biggest game of the regular season (sans Michigan, of course.) Win, and they likely make the playoffs barring a collapse. Lose, and they'll be praying for a NY6 bowl.
Clemson Tigers Clemson was off this week, likely spending it analyzing what went wrong in their shocking loss to Syracuse. They're still ACC frontrunners, but Miami isn't far behind.
Wisconsin Badgers Still an enigma. With Michigan seemingly collapsing, anything other than a 12-0 regular season is going to be a disappointment. At this point, we may not know if this is even a good team until December.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish This is a really fucking good team. They looked completely unstoppable against USC, and they're very well rounded. They have a tough schedule ahead, including facing Miami, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that they run the table. Notre Dame is a serious playoff contender.
Miami Hurricanes Miami never quite put Syracuse away until the clock hit zero, but it's hard to fault them for not blowing out a team that just downed Clemson.
Oklahoma State Cowboys The Cowboys survived a tussle in Texas. They find themselves below Notre Dame now simply because ND looks better.
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma survived Manhattan in a shootout. Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma offense are still one of, if not the best, offensive units in the country, but their defense is doing them zero favors.
Virginia Tech Hokies The Hokies steamrolled a bottom of the barrel UNC team. Not much to say here.
UCF Knights UCF performed well against Navy, and came out with a solid 10 point win. They're still very much in the playoff conversation, but they cannot afford to lose, and they need to hope that their rivals, USF, don't either until their rivalry game. However, they inch closer to the top 10 and are clearly the best G5 team at the moment.
Washington Huskies The Huskies had an off week to recover from their loss to ASU. It's worth noting that Arizona State does look like a pretty solid team, so maybe that loss isn't as bad as it first appears.
Washington State Cougars The Cougars recovered from their thrashing to Cal nicely with a thrashing of their own over Colorado.
NC State Wolfpack The Wolfpack had an off week to prepare for a huge game against Notre Dame this weekend, and Clemson immediately following. If they win both, we'll have to seriously consider them for the playoff.
USF Bulls USF won another game. They have still not lost. That is all.
Michigan State Spartans Michigan State survived the upset against the always-close-but-never-quite-enough Hoosiers. With Michigan plummeting, their only quality win loses its luster.
USC Trojans What a disappointment. Darnold looks terrible at times, they have almost no running game, their defense is very inconsistent. All around disappointing.
Stanford Cardinal Stanford was off this week, and have an easy game against Oregon State before they face the Washingtons in back to back games.
Auburn Tigers Auburn took care of business. They have a bye week before the end of season gauntlet.
Iowa State Cyclones Iowa State has made it clear that their win over Oklahoma was no fluke. This team is the real deal. However, they have a tough three weeks ahead of them as they face three ranked teams. Could they possibly pull off some upsets and make a run at the Big XII title?
Memphis Tigers Memphis notched a solid W against Houston. Their path to the American Championship looks clear, but whoever they end up facing (most likely UCF or USF) will not be an easy team to take down. Especially given that UCF already soundly beat them earlier this season.
West Virginia Mountaineers The Mountaineers scraped by Baylor, who is still looking for their first win. Not very impressive.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets The Yellow Jackets are a few plays from being 6-0 and top 10 ranked. But, they aren't. They have a rough task this week of facing Clemson in Death Valley. They'll need to play their best game of the year.
