Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Did we see a chink in the armor for Bama? Could a 41-23 win over Colorado State be considered a lackluster performance? Regardless, Jalen Hurts looked pretty damn good, and if he's on (especially in the passing department), I can't see many teams beating them. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Took care of business after the big win last week.Baker Mayfield is still a stud. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | They've only outscored their opponents 141-14 in three games. Pssh. |
| Clemson Tigers | Okay fine, I'm a believer now. If the playoff were to start tomorrow, Clemson is definitely one of the top four teams in the nation. As the Tigers beat the tar out of the Louisville Fighting Jacksons, it was pretty much complete domination over what everyone thinks is a pretty solid team (consisting of one Lamar Jackson). |
| Washington Huskies | Browning in another efficient performance, while the Huskies demolish Fresno State. I can't wait to see how this year's Washington team looks against what seems to be a legit Colorado team next week. |
| USC Trojans | USC was finally able to put an amped Texas team to bed. Should we begin to get concerned over Darnold's INTs? A win's a win, and we may never know how good Texas actually is this year. Meanwhile, USC drops out of the playoff for me this week until we see something more convincing out of them. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | All "Horny for Hornibrook" jokes aside, Wisconsin continues to string wins together without much of a problem. Northwestern shouldn't be a huge test for their Big Ten opener, but who knows. I'm higher on Wisconsin than most, and I expect them to take the Fortinbras approach in this conference tragedy after some other teams end up killing each other off. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Michigan ultimately held off Air Force's tricky offense to stay undefeated. The question still remains, though. With their elite defense, will they be able to score enough to hang with the rest of the Big Ten? |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | After having another team's flag literally planted in the middle of their field, Ohio State's main goal was to get back on track. That's exactly what they did in an easy win over Army. OSU will probably continue to breath easily until early October when Maryland comes to town. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | Man, Oklahoma State is a fun team to watch. If their defensive production continues, they could cause some serious shitstorms later in the season. Although, TCU could prove to be a problem next week. |
| Florida State Seminoles | It feels weird having an 0-1 team still so high in my poll after a few weeks, but I have to continue and think FSU is a solid team. I can only assume they'll be ready to play again after sitting out three weeks since their week 1 loss to Bama. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Georgia successfully stuck it to Samford in a gimme win. We'll be able to see the lay of the land much better after their showdown with a Mississippi State team that is finally getting some recognition.  |
| TCU Horned Frogs | TCU boat raced SMU this weekend to stay undefeated. They look legit and honestly just as impressive as Oklahoma State. The winner of next week's game could be catapulted (trebucheted?) into playoff contention. |
| Virginia Tech Hokies | *Restless Gobbling*Tech has done pretty much everything they can do up to this point without much talk outside of the fanbase. They'll thwomp Old Dominion next week, but it'll be their game with Clemson that ultimately defines this season as "good" or "epic." |
| Washington State Cougars | Wazzu was able to easily handle a garbage Oregon State team and will probably be undefeated when USC comes to visit. It'll be interesting to see if A) their defense will be able to hold USC under 50, and B) their offense will continue to put up the same numbers. |
| Miami Hurricanes | We still don't know much about this team after having to take a week off due to the hurricane. Anyway, I think they're a solid top 20 team for now. |
| Auburn Tigers | One score per quarter was enough to comfortably put away Mercer, but this offense still looks a bit off. Good thing they play Missouri next week, who will likely make this offense look elite. Hopefully, they'll be able to gain some traction. |
| USF Bulls | Probably USF's best game so far this season. They'll continue to win games, but they'll need to do so in more convincing fashion if they expect to ascend into playoff discussion. |
| Colorado Buffaloes | Should I be worried that Northern Colorado put up 21 points on what I thought to be a lockdown defense? Maybe a little. Do I think they'll show back up against Washington? I do. It'll be fun to see this if they can slow down Browning. |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | After outscoring their first two cupcakes 106-21, and of the "Yeeeah, but..." arguments came to an end as Mississippi State absolutely manhandled LSU. In what was supposed to be their first test against an elite defense, Nick Fitzgerald and the Bulldog offenseran all over them. We also found out that LSU, indeed, has no offense still. |
| Vanderbilt Commodores | Allll of y'all wanted to hate on Vandy being included in my poll last week. This defense is elite, and even with an offense that will lay an egg now and then, Vandy will still be in games. They'll need to enjoy their time here, though, as Bama comes to Nashville next weekend. |
| Oregon Ducks | Guys, Oregon is a problem in the PAC 12. They may never score fewer than 45 points in a game. By rule, another team has to score more than that to beat them. |
| Kansas State Wildcats | Vandy definitely had their number this past weekend, but this offense can still put up ungodly numbers. I see them getting back on track against Baylor next weekend. |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | Isn't this offense fun to watch? Right now, a nail-biting loss to Va Tech is the only thing keeping WVU out of many polls, but I think they've done enough in their games to still warrant a spot in mine. |
| Florida Gators | In my self-contained argument between Florida and LSU rounding out my top 25, it came down to offenses. LSU showed pretty much nothing, and Florida didn't look amazing by any stretch. Nonetheless, Florida won this past week and is 2-0, so they're in. |
