Overall Rationale: I started writing my reasoning for LSU, and I started going on and on about a huge part of my methodology. I figured I should put it here, since it is still an important thing to say, but it was way too long for a singular team reason. "I hate to diminish early-season wins against opponents that regressed throughout the season (Clemson, Florida), because those usually become almost completely different teams due to a lack of passion and fire that was present in the openers. FSU lost to a very good Georgia Tech team on a game-winning field goal last year, taking them to a game as close as Georgia did. FSU did finish 2-10, so they were still bad, but I don't think they were that bad at the beginning of the season. Of course, at a certain point, you can start diminishing those once-signature wins if they turn out to be really bad. But a lot of people do this far too early. In my opinion, a team that finished the season something like 4-8 or 5-7, which was ranked highly and played close games at the beginning of the season, was overrated, but their overall lack of drive and motivation once those first few losses came through can be just as effective as having not been good at all."

That Washington win was impressive. Like, should stay at No. 1 impressive. |

They didn't do anything this week. Good for them. |

I would have kept them at number 2. But letting Drew Allar gash you like that in the fourth quarter and nearly losing to a Penn State team with an unbelievably anemic offense is very disappointing. Great job silencing that Whiteout crowd, though, although I think that was mainly NBC's doing. |

Damn near lost to a tough team in their first away game in conference. This statement will be repeated many times throughout these rankings. |

See Miami. There's a reason I'm keeping these three bye week teams up here, and it's because they are playoff contenders that haven't come close to messing up. That is not the case with these next few teams. |

I'm so sorry, Mr. Freshwater. I doubted you so much. |

Bama beat Georgia, which is why they are ranked above them. This probably won't last long, as we can chalk up any loss to Bama to the spirit of Bobby Dodd making amends with his old buddy Bear Bryant and cursing Tech's biggest rivals. |

But Georgia is still good, however. |

That was very ugly. But they did just enough to stay in the top 10. |

The AP rankings have been passing Iowa State up a lot recently, and it is extremely undeserved. |

I mean, Ole Miss is a top 10 team. But their earlier wins are looking a bit meh. There is still time for them to climb right back, however. |
13 |

Bye week, sorry, I moved them down by one. |

I think I've gone on like sixteen rants to multiple different people since last night, either online or in-person. I really don't want to talk about it anymore. But with how putrid that offense was for 3/4 of the game, it doesn't matter that we only lost in 2OT, because the offense shit the bed again for us to lose anyway. |

I always like cheering for the old Big 8 teams, but this one is tough, especially with Beau being THIS good. |

See India- oh, they were playing Utah State? At home? *checks Utah State this year, expecting them to be the P4 punching bag they've been since they won the MW* Never mind, Utah State isn't that bad this year! Carry on, Commodores. |

Similar to Ole Miss, I was hesitant about giving them much respect. They have earned it, and will continue to earn it. Man, Vandy, MSU, and Mizzou all going for the SEC title? What a world, huh? |

See Indiana, but way worse. |

*ctrl+c, ctrl+v* They haven't proven me wrong yet, but as soon as they do, I will immediately unrank them. |

Memphis is looking like the G5 representative odds-on favorites with North Texas and Navy. However, Memphis is the only undefeated American or MW undefeated team to beat a P4 team (sorry, Wazzu). |

I kept Mississippi State out last week because I thought that Utah was still a good football team, while MSU was unproven. I was right and wrong, somehow. |

I was torn between Arizona State, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, Houston, Notre Dame, and Virginia, but I couldn't decide because they all had their own reasons for why they shouldn't be ranked. I then considered North Texas, and looking at their resume, I realized the biggest problem someone could have with them was the fact that it was North Texas. Memphis is still ahead, but I'm gonna jump on this North Texas train now and see where it goes. This could backfire, but they've shown themselves to be an excellent team so far. |
