Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. If you have the same record as a team and you beat them you must be ahead. I also don't just award the #1 spot to the CFP winner, as that would be ignoring the entire rest of the season. It was a very close consideration between Ohio State and Oregon, but at the end, I gave Ohio State a slight end. Oregon has a better W-L record by percentage, but if you do wins minus losses (which is how I compare teams who haven't played the same number of games), 14-2 = 13-1. Both teams beat each other once, but one was at Oregon where Oregon won by 1, and one was in a neutral site where Ohio State won by 20. Oregon doesn't have any bad losses, while Ohio State has one bad loss to Michigan. However, Ohio State also has more big wins. Combining it all together, I think it's pretty clear that those two are the #1 and #2 teams, and I landed on Ohio State barely edging Oregon. On a separate note, while I didn't have a problem with the teams that were selected, I think BYU was probably better than several teams in the playoff and was underrated all season. Iowa State was also undervalued, which was a common theme with the Big 12 this season. I don't know why other rankings had Texas over Georgia when they settled it on the field TWICE this season. Speaking of the SEC, these rankings have the SEC champion being the 5th best team if they were in the B1G, and I genuinely believe that to be accurate. Otherwise, Louisville is probably one of the least talked about teams who went so under the radar this season. They're 9-4, yes, but their losses were by 7 to national championship game runner-up Notre Dame, 7 to CFP team SMU, 7 to 10 win Miami, and their one puzzling 3 point loss to Stanford. Meanwhile, they also went to the future ACC Champion's stadium and blew out Clemson.
