Mynameisdiehard Ballot for 2024 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 21, 2024, 5:05 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Heavier weight on record, weighing overall strength of record with results, comparing head to head and weighing strengths of wins/losses. Just missed: Duke, Syracuse, Cincinnati,, Nebraska, Colorado, Ole Miss, UL Monroe Dropped: Nebraska

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks No change. Easy #1 for me
Penn State Nittany Lions No change from last week besides moving up due to Texas loss
Ohio State Buckeyes No change from last week besides moving up due to Texas loss
Miami Hurricanes Took care of business against a good Louisville team. Big 12's near slips earns them a spot back up at 4
BYU Cougars Required a last minute TD against Oklahoma State to win it. Although OSU was far improved this game and was showing why they were considered a pre-season favorite, this drops BYU to the same level as ISU for me.
Iowa State Cyclones Almost slipped up against UCF, but BYU almost slipped as well. The two are basically dead even for me.
Indiana Hoosiers Another dominating win. Indiana is absolutely deserving to be respected and placed up here for now. That being said, one of the worst SORs of existing undefeated teams.
Georgia Bulldogs They beat Texas, but this is hurting the SEC's overall resume
Texas Longhorns Loss to Georgia brings them here. Further proves my belief that the SEC is not as strong as they national pundits would like to make you believe.
Tennessee Volunteers Beat Alabama, but the SEC continues to hurt themselves.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Took care of business not enough changes around them while we sort out the turmoil in the SEC.
Texas A&M Aggies Struggled a little against Mississippi St, but overall resume remains pretty unchanged at this time. Big matchup with LSU this week where they can solidify their spot at the top of the SEC or find themselves tumbling.
Boise State Broncos Their toughest game left on the schedule is this Friday. They just need to take care of business and enjoy the chaos that will happen around them in the coming weeks as teams begin dropping.
Pittsburgh Panthers Bye week. Moved up due to Bama's drop. Sneaky game against Syracuse this week, but really eyeing the SMU matchup next week to see if Pitt deserves a spot higher up this list.
SMU Mustangs Handled a bad Stanford team. Need to make sure they aren't overlooking Duke this week and then a big matchup with Pitt next week.
Clemson Tigers As I said last week, Clemson is probably under ranked, but comparing to Pitt & SMU's resumes these are correct. Pitt is still undefeated and has still been able to grind out some close wins against decent teams like Cal & Cincinnati. SMU's only loss is to (in my rankings) a higher ranked BYU team and only by 3 points. Clemson's loss is a blowout to a lower ranked Georgia team. Additionally, in matchups that overlap with their counterparts, the other teams have had better results. Clemson will have the chance to prove it against Pitt. later in the season.
Illinois Fighting Illini Well they looked good against Michigan so maybe they do belong. Moved them up like everyone else with Bama's loss. Can they pull off the upset against Oregon this week? Even if not, will be difficult to drop them too far if their only losses are against the Top 2 teams in the country.
LSU Tigers Battle of the top of the SEC incoming this week. Don't think anyone would have predicted that at the start of the season
Kansas State Wildcats They just need to take care of business until their final week showdown with Iowa State. Not much chance to improve the resume until then, but still should watch out for Arizona St. & Cincinnati
Army West Point Not much has changed here.
Missouri Tigers Put them above Bama this week due to the fact they only have 1 loss compared to Bama's 2. They play this week though so everything will sort itself out here.
Alabama Crimson Tide First 2 loss team in my Top 25. Resume wise, they have the best of all 2 loss teams due to having a Top 10 win, but as I have continued to say, the national pundits need to stop acting like that Vanderbilt loss was not a massive red flag for the entire SEC. AP will make Alabama look better by ranking Vandy, but Vandy deserves to be nowhere near the rankings with the worst loss of all 2 loss teams (2-4 GA State). Bama has to win this week otherwise they are out of the rankings.
Navy Midshipmen Nebraska drops out so they move up. Navy has a chance to solidify their spot in the rankings and sow some chaos with Notre Dame coming to town this week.
Washington State Cougars I said what I said last week and it hasn't changed. Anyone ranking Vandy above them is putting their SEC bias on full blast.
Duke Blue Devils It was a tough pick, but between the few one loss teams I considered (Memphis, Syracuse, UL Monroe) they all have bad SOS. Duke's is the best. A couple of 2 loss teams like Cincinnati & Ole Miss could also be considered here. I foresee some shake up here at the bottom of the rankings this week though with the matchups we are seeing and can possibly see room for a few teams and an easier time solidifying the back end of the rankings here next week.
