FlashSpider-man Ballot for 2024 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 20, 2024, 11:41 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Bias: I go to TAMU. Grew up ASU fan. Gonna keep reasoning short cause no one reads this. Message me on reddit if you are reading this. Also putting a large weight on losses. Early on, it's tough to weigh quality losses imo, as you don't know how good teams actually are. This is starting to change and future weeks will have quality losses start to matter more. Also, idk g5 so I tend to leave them off for an extra week.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks
Penn State Nittany Lions I rank on most deserved, not better. Are these teams from 2 to 7 better than OSU, UGA, or tu? I'd say probably not. But we can't know for sure. At the end of the day, they are undefeated. Imo, a meh p4 win is better than a quality loss. It'll wash out by the end of the season.
BYU Cougars
Indiana Hoosiers
Miami Hurricanes
Pittsburgh Panthers
Iowa State Cyclones
Ohio State Buckeyes Only loss is to current number 1.
Georgia Bulldogs Massive win over tu means they are ranked above tu. Bigger game, means more than loss to Bama right now.
Texas Longhorns Nice to not have to rank them 1, though they'll prob get back by the end of the season.
Kansas State Wildcats
Boise State Broncos Their only loss was to Oregon. The fact it was a close game is helping them up. It's their only p4 game, but a 3 point loss vs a very good UO team is very valuable. Maybe I'm overvaluing it though, starting to debate.
Clemson Tigers
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
SMU Mustangs
LSU Tigers
Illinois Fighting Illini I think these next 3 can be in any order
Tennessee Volunteers Big win vs Bama but the loss at Arky hurt. With lsu blowing our Arkansas, UT is below them, though I think the Bama win is better than any of TAMU's wins, who only beat Arky by one possession, so UT is above A&M.
Washington State Cougars Losing to a really good Boise State team and beating two p4 teams earns them a spot. Better, imo, than Army and Navy who haven't played p4 teams yet.
Texas A&M Aggies Imo teams like A&M and lsu are only ranked so high because of the recognition of being in the SEC. I don't think the SEC is as deep as it normally is. Yes, tu and UGA are both really good. But, imo, there is a large gap to the next tier. (Circle UT vs UGA in a few weeks. Calling it now, UGA is gonna kill them. May easily be wrong, but I'm feeling bold). See my blurb on Mizzou as well. Weigman and Co need to be more consistent. Kinda a rough week vs a bad Miss St, though tbf a lot of TAMU fans, including me, expected it to be a rough week. Only two SEC teams remain undefeated in conference play and they match up on Sat. Gonna be at that game, barring any major events, very excited.
Army West Point
Navy Midshipmen
Syracuse Orange
Alabama Crimson Tide First two loss team to make it for me. It was between Bama, Mizzou, and Duke (only 1 loss p4 team I don't have ranked, I believe) here. I'd say they've played a significantly harder schedule than the other two. The Vandy loss hurt but Mizzou only beat Vandy by 3. It's too close that beating Georgia puts them over Mizzou.
Missouri Tigers In Mizzou's conference wins, they have won by a total of 7 points, vs the likes of Vandy, and Auburn. Nearly losing to Auburn hurt. With that being said, a lot of that can be chalked up to the Cook injury, as they scored 15 unanswered after his return. Still, just two plays go differently and Mizzou wins easily. So maybe they should be above Bama. But being blown out by TAMU isn't good. TAMU is good, yes, but not that good. But it's better than Duke, who have only beaten two of the worst teams in their conference, both in close games.
