cyberchaox Ballot for 2024 Week 9

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 19, 2024, 11:15 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks Wins over Ohio State and Boise State are probably the best 1-2 punch
Penn State Nittany Lions ...but Penn State's win over Illinois might be bigger than either of them
BYU Cougars Beating SMU and Kansas State is a pretty good 1-2, too.
Indiana Hoosiers They just absolutely destroyed a team I'd previously thought deserved a ranking.
Georgia Bulldogs Plenty of quality wins in their own right; would certainly be #1 if they were still undefeated
Iowa State Cyclones That was ugly, but they survived. Nice collection of wins, even if I have no clue what to make of the middle of the Big 12 any more.
Illinois Fighting Illini Now this is B1G Football--ugly as sin.
Texas Longhorns
Pittsburgh Panthers The weird thing is, at the moment, Pitt being underrated is less on the ACC being underrated and more on the Big 12 being underrated. West Virginia is 3-4, but the four teams they lost to are a combined 25-1.
Kansas State Wildcats ...and there's the 1.
Tennessee Volunteers ...That is a quality win. As much as I'd like to, I can't deny that beating Alabama is still a quality win.
Boise State Broncos Jeanty is him.
SMU Mustangs I feel like I might be overrating them on the strength of their quality loss. Still, blowout win this week.
Ohio State Buckeyes I'm still not sold on their resume. They certainly looked good against Oregon, but the quality wins just aren't there yet. They've got plenty of chances though with games against Indiana and Penn State.
Washington State Cougars Baylor beating Texas Tech took some of the shine off this resume, but there's still plenty to spare.
Texas A&M Aggies Thanks again for setting me free, Georgia. This is the first time all season that Texas A&M has even been in CONSIDERATION for my ballot, because they lost to Notre Dame week one and ND lost to Northern Illinois early enough to be out of consideration pretty quickly. This is a solid resume.
Navy Midshipmen Navy is kicking butt and has the higher quality win compared to their rival.
Miami Hurricanes I honestly did consider moving Miami up to a ranking more suited to an undefeated P4 team. But they're still not winning convincingly, winning their conference games by an average of 4 points. At least this one wasn't controversial...as far as I know.
Army West Point Never really a close game, and while the SOS is a bit dubious, it's not Liberty levels of dubious.
LSU Tigers USC is increasingly looking like a really bad loss, but they're piling up the good wins.
Missouri Tigers I actually wasn't originally going to give the Aggies as much credit as I did, until I remembered that they were the ones to give Mizzou their lone loss. And it wasn't even close.
Clemson Tigers This is the same story as Ohio State--they pass the eye test with flying colors but their opponents don't. At all.
Memphis Tigers I did say that Navy had a better quality win than Army did. This is it. Memphis won an absolute barnburner.
Alabama Crimson Tide I certainly COULD only rank teams with one loss or fewer. But no, Alabama's resume is still good enough. They did beat Georgia, after all.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish ...I didn't really want to rank the Irish, but the alternatives were...well, to be honest, the best alternatives were to continue to rank either Nebraska or Texas Tech after they got blew out, or to ignore Colorado's loss to Nebraska and rank them. The middle of the Big 12 is so muddled that I feel like I'm going to move from not having any of them in to maybe next week the entire 20-25 will be Big 12 teams. The Texas A&M win is carrying this resume, though this week's Georgia Tech win is also good.
