133112 Ballot for 2024 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 30, 2024, 8:55 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Same as the previous few weeks, although I think my order of conference ranking is now B1G, XII, SEC, ACC, PAC, MWC, American, SBC, CUSA(Unranked Conferences not included in these rankings yet)

Rank Team Reason
1 Alabama Crimson Tide Convincing win over Georgia lifts the Tide back up to #1 in the polls!
2 Penn State Nittany Lions I was really hot on the Illini, and I'm going to take their loss as less of an exposing of them, and more of an impressive Penn State win.
3 Indiana Hoosiers Indiana keeps winning big in B1G games, and I'm not able to keep them out of the upper echelon any longer!
4 Oregon Ducks Good win, now that the teams suspected to be the best are playing real teams, we'll probably see a lot more of them rising up(although look at Ole Miss, maybe not!).
5 Iowa State Cyclones iowa State is looking like the best team in the XII, and earns themselves top five representation!
6 BYU Cougars Although Iowa State is the best, BYU isn't too far behind!
7 Texas Longhorns A good showing from the Longhorns, but other performances outshine them just enough to slow their rise a bit.
8 Ohio State Buckeyes Not a bad game at all from the Buckeyes, but they suffer from similar issues to Texas.
9 Navy Midshipmen Wow. Watching Navy play was something else. Can the defense be worked on? Yes. But, as a former player on a flexbone option offense, is Navy running the scheme to perfection? Yes. Is Blake Horvath a Heisman Candidate? I sure think so.
10 Army West Point Army is moving up, thanks to a similarly dominating performance as Navy had! I have them one below just because I didn't see their whole game like I did for Navy, but the two service academies stay together and move up the ranks!
11 Tennessee Volunteers Victim of the bye, the Vols fall down to #11.
12 Missouri Tigers Same as above.
13 UNLV Rebels Uh, yeah, Skula isn't getting his NIL money.
14 James Madison Dukes Big win, but the strength of the opponent keeps them from rising monumentally.
15 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Rutgers didn't have a horrible game, but it wasn't what I was looking for either. Still, I've got them ranked higher than I suspect most do.
16 Miami Hurricanes That was too close, especially against a team that lost to Vandy.
17 Duke Blue Devils As above, a close game, but Duke survives.
18 Pittsburgh Panthers Can't lose on the bye!
19 Liberty Flames Liberty's forced bye stops the Flames from spreading too much.
20 Georgia Bulldogs Tough, close loss, sadly results in severe punishment this early in the season with my record-based rankings.
21 Illinois Fighting Illini Almost the same case for Illinois, although that loss was a little worse.
22 Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa re-enters, as teams leave with unexpected losses. The bottom four was quite contentious this week, but I think Iowa's the best out of this group.
23 Kansas State Wildcats That Arizona loss doesn't look as bad anymore, and the Wildcats come back into the polls.
24 Michigan Wolverines Michigan is steadily climbing back up, but I don't trust them to stay for too long, unless their pass game improves.
25 USC Trojans Beat the hell out of my choking Badgers? You're ranked! Honorable mentions for this week are Arizona, Boise State, Utah, Washington State, and Notre Dame, in that order.
