quantum_jedi Ballot for 2024 Week 2

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 4, 2024, 8:36 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season success.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Nothing new here. Dominant win over a good team.
Alabama Crimson Tide The DeBoer offense looked spectacular. September 28th will tell us a lot about this team.
Ohio State Buckeyes Shaky start, but cruised to a win.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish One of the best wins of the first weekend. Defense appears as good as expected and the offensive line performed well enough against a solid front seven, despite preseason injuries.
Penn State Nittany Lions If Allar can continue to improve in Kotelnicki's scheme, then Penn State may challenge for a B1G title. Good win against a solid WVU team.
Texas Longhorns About as expected for the Longhorns. Michigan will be a much stronger test of how far this team can go.
Oklahoma Sooners Solid win. Won't know much about Oklahoma until SEC play begins.
Oregon Ducks Significant struggles on the offensive line against FCS Idaho. Boise will be an interesting challenge, but the Ducks have plenty of time to course correct before Ohio St comes to town.
Miami Hurricanes Crushed a Florida team that seems completely lifeless. If Cam Ward can maintain this level consistently, Miami will be dangerous.
Michigan Wolverines Some struggles against a good Fresno St team. About as expected so far: defense good and offense is still a question.
Tennessee Volunteers Hard to take much away from this victory, but Nico Iamaleava might be the real deal.
Missouri Tigers Similar to other team's big wins against overmatched FCS opponents. Missouri looked like they could live up to the hype.
Utah Utes If Rising and Kuithe can return to their wizardry of a few years ago, Utah is going to be hard to beat this year.
Ole Miss Rebels Solid win against an inferior opponent. Dart looked sharp and in command.
USC Trojans A Lincoln Riley team winning because of a defensive performance?? I'm impressed by how complete of a team USC looked against LSU.
Kansas State Wildcats Solid win against an FCS team.
Louisville Cardinals Good tune-up game for the Cardinals. Will get another next week before a feisty Georgia Tech team comes to town.
Kansas Jayhawks Hard to take anything meaningful from a win against a team that has only been FCS for a few years. Good win nonetheless.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Expected SDSU to be more competitive, but Oklahoma St controlled the game against a very good Jackrabbits team.
Iowa Hawkeyes As is the case with a lot of B1G teams, defense will be good and the offense is still an unknown.
Arizona Wildcats Arizona impressed and Tetairoa McMillan might be the best receiver in the B12.
Clemson Tigers Tough to open the year against Georgia, but Clemson looks to be in a different tier. Can still have a terrific season, but not the way you want to start.
Maryland Terrapins Expected Maryland to take a few steps back this year, but they crushed UCONN. The middle of the B1G is going to be a mess.
LSU Tigers Tough loss for the Tigers, but nothing to worry about just yet. Nussmeier looked good against a surprisingly stout USC defense, LSU just needs to find a way to finish drives.
Washington Huskies Solid start to the season for the Huskies. Defense looked good under Belichick, but the offensive line still has a ton of question marks.
