hurricaneatx Ballot for 2024 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 3, 2024, 10:33 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Normally, this ballot is an arbitrary blend of power/resume approaches to rankings, but since it's still very early in the season it's more of a (???) poll based on a vague and undefinable mix of vibes, returning production, head coaching tenure, recruiting strength, and anticipated roster strength. I don't really care if a team moves drastically week-to-week. I am a fan of the Texas Longhorns. [Teams in the ranking suburbs (next 5): Louisville, Auburn, NC State, SMU, Vanderbilt] [Teams in the ranking exurbs (no particular order): Virginia Tech, Boise State, Washington, Boston College, Florida State, Florida, TCU, West Virginia, Memphis, Tulane, Maryland, Wisconsin, Oregon State, Liberty]

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) -
Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0) -
Texas Longhorns (1-0) -
Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0) -
Oregon Ducks (1-0) - That was... questionable against Idaho. A team of Oregon's caliber should not be in a 3-point game against the Vandals with less than half of the fourth quarter to go.
Ole Miss Rebels (1-0) -
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-0) -
Penn State Nittany Lions (1-0) -
Michigan Wolverines (1-0) -
Missouri Tigers (1-0) -
Utah Utes (1-0) -
Oklahoma Sooners (1-0) -
Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-0) -
Tennessee Volunteers (1-0) -
Kansas State Wildcats (1-0) -
Miami Hurricanes (1-0) -
USC Trojans (1-0) -
Kansas Jayhawks (1-0) -
Arizona Wildcats (1-0) -
LSU Tigers (0-1) - C'mon Brian Kelly.
Clemson Tigers (0-1) - It's hard to rate what are decent teams on paper after they get blown out by elite competition in the early season. I guess somewhere around here makes sense.
Iowa State Cyclones (1-0) - I am still rating Iowa State higher than most, with the strong pool of experiences, until I see otherwise. Next week at Iowa will be a very good barometer.
Iowa Hawkeyes (1-0) -
Texas A&M Aggies (0-1) - I didn't have Texas A&M ranked previously, but they were in a decent defensive tangle with Notre Dame, who I have rated decently highly, until late in the 4th quarter. That does seem to justify having them at least in the top 25.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-0) - I had Georgia Tech on my shortlist of consideration for top-30ish teams in the preseason. With Florida State now embarrassingly losing to double-digit underdogs twice for everyone to watch, I have no idea where to put Georgia Tech or Boston College. FSU is still a solid team on paper... so I guess Georgia Tech being here is perfectly fine. Still early in the season, so it'll probably be a bit of a shuffle in this #25 spot as the season goes on.
