Overall Rationale: I told three guinea pigs my preseason expectations, then spent the long weekend drinking beer and hanging out with them. We then modified those expectations with who did and didn’t beat power opponents and how the teams “looked”. This is an elaborate explanation for my method that I just kinda moved things by vibes and put some things way too high or low because it’s kinda funny and this is week 1.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | They so thoroughly embarrassed Clemson. They made it so obvious that they’re the top team this year. Especially given how some of the other conferences’ top candidates looked this week. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Defense looks great and so does their HC. Offense is finding its rhythm, though the A&M defense is a hard one to do that on. |
| Miami Hurricanes | The Hurricanes may have just accelerated plans to fire Billy Napier substantially. Thoroughly embarrassing the Gators must feel nice. Cam looked great, and they have a 26 year old lining up vs college kids. |
| USC Trojans | I think LSU is still a solid team, and USC showed they can operate a competent defense. That’s all they’ve been needing to be a serious contender. That was a playoff game and USC came out on top. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Yeah it was WVU, but handily beating WVU looks good compared to lots of the other B1G schools. |
| Texas Longhorns | It was just Colorado State, but texas looks to be solid this year. I hope they lose the next 11 games. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Thoroughly dismantled WKU. Alabama looks like it’s the same old same old. I’m looking forwards to seeing them against real competition. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | A bit more of a struggle against MF AKRON than one should expect of Ohio State. They’ll turn the corner but having them way down here is reflective of how poor that first half was. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | I think it’s a sin to have a Mississippi school ranked in the top 10. Luckily I’m a well known sinner, just ask your mom. Dart is going to make Ole Miss a hard out for any team. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | 69-3 nice. |
| Utah Utes | Utes look solid with their returning old men. I hope all these super duper seniors are going for masters degrees at least. |
| Oregon Ducks | I know the Idaho schools aren’t just pushovers, but when you’re one of the top teams in the FBS you should be making it look like any FCS team is a highschool team that got lost and accidentally put into the game. |
| Michigan Wolverines | That Fresno State game was far closer than the score shows. Wolverines better do better this coming week vs texas, that’s all I ask of you. |
| Kansas Jayhawks | Solid vs little school. I think it’s funny to put them ahead of Mizzou |
| Missouri Tigers | Solid vs little school. I think it’s funny to put them right behind Kansas |
| Arizona Wildcats | A little worrying how many points they allowed New Mexico to get, but the team looks solid. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Looked solid vs Temple, I want to see what they can bring against real competition. |
| Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets | Beat the preseason #10 team so far on the road that you’re on the other side of an ocean? Have 2 wins in week 1? Obviously a top team. (SMU will not get the same recognition for 2-0 did you see that Nevada game) WEEK OF THE NERDS |
| Vanderbilt Commodores | WEEK OF THE NERDS. Virginia Tech? You mean the school that some guy named Pat picked to win the ACC? Obviously the team that beats them must be a powerhouse. Put those anchors down in the W column Vandy and ride this all the way to a natty. |
| Boston College Eagles | Beat the preseason #10 team in their own house? Make that team be 0-2 in week 1? Yeah that’s a top 20 team. In fairness, BC is built to run the ball and could see some solid success in the ACC this year. Who cares the Ivy League left you and Georgetown out, week of the nerds. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | Hate to see the Max Johnson injury. I will be shocked if they stay in my rankings past this week. Good luck heels. Week of the nerds. |
| TCU Horned Frogs | I thought this was the week of the nerds, but TCU went and beat Stanford, so… clearly Stanford aren’t nerds? |
| Louisville Cardinals | Dominant over a recently good FCS team (though I don’t know how they are this year). |
| LSU Tigers | Despite the loss, I still think LSU is a decent team this year. Unfortunately Brian Kelly doesn’t win big games |
| Boise State Broncos | Fun game vs a sun belt team that loves to spoil. Boise State and Memphis are becoming my favorites for the G5 this year. |
