_TGT7 Ballot for 2024 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 2, 2024, 10:39 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I try to rank off resume, start of season is goofy and I don't have much to go off of so the rankings will be goofy the first few weeks, I based my rankings off the preseason AP poll, and moved teams up or down according to that based on how I felt they played this week.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Beat Clemson soundly after a somewhat slow start, Georgia maintains expectations.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Texas Longhorns
Alabama Crimson Tide
Ole Miss Rebels
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Good win on the road against Texas A&M. Don't quite feel comfortable putting Notre Dame in the top 5 or 4 teams yet though
Penn State Nittany Lions
Oregon Ducks Oregon played like absolute crap against a admittedly decent Idaho Vandals, first games can be weird, so I don't want to completely drop Oregon out of the top 10, but if they play like that against a real squad they will be screwed
Missouri Tigers
Utah Utes
Michigan Wolverines Michigan had a slower game against Fresno State, so I decided to drop them out of the top 10 for now.
Tennessee Volunteers
Oklahoma Sooners
USC Trojans USC got a statement victory against LSU, Caleb Williams is probably pissed that his old team has a functional defense now that he left.
Miami Hurricanes Florida might be complete trash for all we know, but Miami did beat them quite soundly, and looked good given their struggles the last few seasons, they just need to remember to kneel when the game is won.
Kansas State Wildcats
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Kansas Jayhawks
Iowa Hawkeyes
Boston College Eagles Boston College trashes Florida State as an away team, which has to be one of the biggest victories for Boston College in years. We have no idea how good FSU is, but there weren't too many big games to start the season, so I'll rank them for now.
LSU Tigers LSU loses yet another season opener. People will make fun of them for this, but I will give LSU credit for scheduling actual teams to start the season to make things interesting for us people who rank the teams.
Arizona Wildcats Dropped Arizona a bit because it took a godlike offensive performance for Arizona to beat a New Mexico team that lost to Montana State a week ago. Considered dropping them out of the poll, but a good amount of lower ranked teams lost, and NC State looked even worse against a cupcake, so Arizona hangs on by a thread in this poll.
Clemson Tigers Losing to Georgia is fine, but getting completely destroyed offensively and losing 34-3 isn't a good look. I'm keeping Clemson in because losing to the #1 ranked team isn't exactly surprising. I think Clemson is finished as a national championship contender unless they change coaches, I wouldn't get rid of Dabo though, speaking as a Nebraska fan
Vanderbilt Commodores Ranking Vanderbilt is admittedly a bit of a meme pick, but they did beat a Virginia Tech team that was receiving votes, and no other unranked team who didn't directly beat a ranked team did anything super impressive, so I'll throw them a bone. They play Alcorn State and Georgia State next, so if they win those games they could be 3-0 going into a game against a currently ranked Missouri team. I like Clark Lea and I would like to see a good Vanderbilt football squad.
UNLV Rebels I was debating between whether to rank UNLV, Georgia Tech, or Washington, but Washington didn't play anyone, and Georgia Tech's FSU win doesn't look as good after Boston College beat FSU in a much more convincing fashion as the road team. UNLV trashed Houston 27-7 in a game that was never close, and because I rank off resume and don't want to keep teams like A&M or FSU ranked, UNLV will get a vote.
