Overall Rationale: This ranking is based on recursive calculation, applying the results of every game from the entire season simultaneously. Until this point in the season, there was an element of preseason influence based on the /r/CFB preseason poll, but that has now been phased out with 10 games in the books. Earlier games are always re-evaluated based on new information. Teams are graded on their offensive and defensive performances separately, with three criteria: number of points scored or allowed, the strength of the opposing unit in that game, and whether the game was won or lost (wins receive a x4 boost automatically).
