CriterionCrypt Ballot for 2023 Week 13

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 19, 2023, 2:47 p.m.

Overall Rationale: My overall philosophy puts the eye test over overall record, conference standings, and even head-to-head results at times. Generally speaking, each individual ranking is based on what I think the head to head outcome would be on a neutral field at the time of ranking. On a side note, I believe in G5 inclusion in the Top 25. While it can't always happen, I would like to see every conference have at least one team in the Top 25.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia dominated a respectable Tennessee team this week. They haven't lost a game in 28 games. In my mind, they are the team to beat.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Oregon Ducks
Alabama Crimson Tide A lot of the SEC played their mid-season cupcake this week, but Alabama took care of business. They are one of the most improved teams in college football this season
Florida State Seminoles Florida State ultimately beat North Alabama, but at one point FSU was down by 2 scores. That is unacceptable for a team with as much talent as FSU. They really haven't impressed me a lot as of late.
Washington Huskies Washington gets a little bit of a nod to an undefeated season. I know that overall record isn't the primary driver of my poll, but I have to respect it. To be fair, Washington reminds me a lot of Oklahoma, but slightly more disciplined. They aren't wowing me, but ugly wins are better than close losses any day of the week.
Michigan Wolverines Once again, I refuse to put a team whose coach is on suspension for a cheating scandal in the top four. I do think they are legitimately a top ten team, and I know this is a reddit poll that means little outside of the subreddit. But I refuse to rank Michigan as high as they might truly be because of the cheating scandal on principle alone.
Texas Longhorns
LSU Tigers I know LSU got beat by Ole' Miss and has a worse record than some of the teams below them. But I honestly think that if LSU played every team below them today on a neutral field, they would win.
Ole Miss Rebels
Louisville Cardinals
Missouri Tigers
Arizona Wildcats Arizona is the hottest team in the country. They have 3 losses but all 3 were by 7 points or less. They really played well against Utah, and they are not a team anyone should want to face in bowl season.
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma won another ugly game against a less talented opponent on the back of their turnover producing defense. Oklahoma has the talent to play with a lot of teams above them, but they are too inconsistent and undisciplined to be ranked any higher.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State is at their ceiling. They win the games they are supposed to win, they lose the games they are supposed to lose.
Kansas State Wildcats
Oregon State Beavers Oregon State doesn't deserve to drop a lot. They played one of the few undefeated P5 schools and played them down to the wire. They are still a good football team.
Oklahoma State Cowboys OSU started slow, but they sure did come roaring back in the second half. They are one win away from the Big XII title game.
Tulane Green Wave
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Iowa Hawkeyes For some reason, Iowa still finds a way to win. It is ugly, but it somehow they are still rolling.
Tennessee Volunteers I know Tennessee got soundly beat by Georgia. But when the #1 team beats the #18 team, does the #18 team deserve to drop out of the Top 25?
Liberty Flames
UNLV Rebels UNLV really showed up against Air Force, and for awhile we all thought Air Force was going to go undefeated. With Fresno State's loss this week, UNLV deserves a nod for the Mountain West.
Toledo Rockets
