Effective-Lead-6657 Ballot for 2023 Week 13

Ballot Type: Human

Rank Team Reason
Michigan Wolverines (1) Michigan looked mortal for the first time all season, and McCarthy really struggled. I still think they’re the most complete team in the nation though.
Washington Huskies (2) The Huskies won a PAC-12 after dark game in Corvallis. I don’t care if it was close; that is still an achievement. Adding another ranked win is good for the resume.
Ohio State Buckeyes (3) That was a dominant showing against a Minnesota team that is at least not awful. The game against Michigan is going to be awesome.
Georgia Bulldogs (5) I think I can finally say that Georgia’s early season woes no longer worry me. Thrashing Ole Miss and Tennessee in back to back weeks is super impressive. The Bulldogs look good enough to win another title.
Texas Longhorns (6) Ames is a difficult place to play, and I don’t fault the Longhorns for struggling early. The win in Tuscaloosa is really what has them in this spot.
Florida State Seminoles (4) The Noles ended up blowing out North Alabama after struggling early. Georgia and Texas both added important wins against bowl-bound conference opponents. FSU did not. Also, the ACC sucks.
Alabama Crimson Tide (7) Alabama blew out Chattanooga to nobody’s surprise. This team has rolled since the Texas loss and keeps their spot.
Oregon Ducks (8) A dominant showing against a subpar conference opponent. Big game against the Beavers next.
Penn State Nittany Lions (9) Penn State can win emphatically against every team other than Michigan and Ohio State. But we already knew that.
Louisville Cardinals (12) Miami isn’t bad, but the Cards should have been able to put them away easier. Louisville is moving up more because they teams ahead of them stumbled and less because they impressed.
Oklahoma Sooners (11) It’s hard for me to drop the Sooners for almost losing to BYU, but I feel fine letting Louisville jump them.
Liberty Flames (13) Another blow out win against a week opponent for Liberty. They’re the best G5 team right now.
Ole Miss Rebels (14) The Rebels played a much needed cupcake after the Georgia game. They’ll have a chance to crush State’s bowl dreams in the Egg Bowl.
Missouri Tigers (15) How do you almost lose to Florida? I guess they didn’t lose, so I won’t drop them.
LSU Tigers (17) Georgia State is a solid team, and the Tigers made them look like an FCS squad. LSU has looked fantastic at teams this year, and all of their losses are to top 13 teams. They deserve to be the highest ranked 3 loss team.
James Madison Dukes (10) Classic App State. This is still a good team with a ranked win against Troy.
Kansas State Wildcats (19) The Wildcats pulled out a nice win against a solid Kansas team. Wins for OSU, Texas, and Missouri also helped them this weekend.
Iowa Hawkeyes (16) The Hawkeyes will be representing the West in the CCG, and they almost lost to Illinois. I think it’s fair to say that LSU and K-State showed out much more than Iowa on Saturday.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (18) Blow out in the Sam Hartman revenge game. That’s pretty much what we expected.
Troy Trojans (20) JMU’s loss doesn’t help Troy out. Still, Troy’s only losses are to top 17 teams. That counts for something.
Toledo Rockets (23) A comeback one-point victory over Bowling Green is not great. But I have a hard time moving a one-loss team much lower.
Oregon State Beavers (21) The Beavers fought hard against the #2 team, and there is no shame in that. It didn’t feel right to drop them out of my rankings.
Tulane Green Wave (22) Their only loss is to Ole Miss. Beating FAU does not impress me.
Arizona Wildcats (NR) Wow. Arizona dominated an Utah team that I thought was good. The Misssissippi State loss is still holding them back, but I felt like I had to rank them. If the Beavers beat the Ducks, then the Wildcats can go to the PAC-12 title game.
NC State Wolfpack (NR) I know that the ACC is bad, but at this point in the season, it’s hard to find a team without a horrendously embarrassing loss.
