Due_Connection179 Ballot for 2023 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 3, 2023, 7:09 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I watch games all day Saturday then for the game I don't watch I go through that games play-by-play (plus read articles) to see what happened instead of just looking at the box score.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns Last Week #2 vs #23 Kansas : Won 40 - 14 Texas took care of business against Kansas and it really wasn't in danger at any point during the game. I feel like they are currently the best complete team and they have another chance to prove it this week. Next Week vs #13 Oklahoma : -6.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Washington Huskies Last Week #1 at Arizona : Won 31 - 24 Washington finally had a game where they looked like a normal team. I don't know if this was because they were looking ahead to their next game (vs #5 Oregon) or if the Arizona that showed up in the 2nd-half at Mississippi State showed up the whole game today. Next Week is a Bye Week
Georgia Bulldogs Last Week #3 at Auburn : Won 27 - 20 Georgia looked sloppy on offense and their turnovers kept putting their defense in terrible spots. The Bulldogs were lucky that they came away with the win today. Next Week vs #19 Kentucky : -14.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Win but Doesn't Cover the Spread (can't trust them)
Florida State Seminoles Last Week #4 was a Bye Week Next Week vs Virginia Tech : -24 pt favorites : Prediction - Win but Doesn't Cover the Spread
Ohio State Buckeyes Last Week #5 was a Bye Week Next Week vs Maryland : -19.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Lose Outright (Upset Alert Pick of the Week)
Oregon Ducks Last Week #7 at Stanford : Won 42 - 6 Easily took care of the worst team in the ACC...I mean PAC-12. Next Week is a Bye Week
Penn State Nittany Lions Last Week #6 at Northwestern : Won 41 - 13 For people not watching, you might think that this was just a slow start then Penn State turned it on in the 2nd half. But what actually happened was Penn State just couldn't finish drives in the first half for points, then fixed that problem in the 2nd half. Next Week is a Bye Week
Michigan Wolverines Last Week #8 at Nebraska : Won 45 - 7 Michigan's schedule this season is honestly laughable all the way until November 11th, so don't expect them to go up my board at all unless teams above them start losing (or struggling vs unranked teams). Michigan's 3 games in October: at Minnesota / vs Indiana / at Michigan State Next Week at Minnesota : 19.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread (really needs style points over the next month and a half)
USC Trojans Last Week #9 at Colorado : Won 48 - 41 USC was up 41 - 14 after a TD with 7 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, and even though Colorado outscored them 27 - 7 in the last 20 minutes of the game, it never felt like USC cared enough to continue to add on as if they were in danger of losing. It's for sure a bad look, especially later in the season if USC is 10 - 1 or 11 - 1 and people are just looking at schedules to try and put teams apart from each other, but they got the job done today. Next Week vs Arizona : 21.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Last Week at #12 Duke : Won 21 - 14 Back-to-Back weeks Notre Dame's offense looks below average, but their defense is just incredible. If only the fielded 11 players on that last play vs Ohio State, maybe we are talking about them with Texas and Washington as a possible #1 overall. Next Week at #23 Louisville : 6.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Washington State Cougars Last Week #11 was a Bye Week Next Week at UCLA : 3.5 pt underdogs : Prediction - Wins Outright
Miami Hurricanes Last Week #13 was a Bye Week Next Week vs Georgia Tech : 21 pt favorites : Predicition - Wins by Doesn't Cover (I feel weird about this game going into this weekend)
Oklahoma Sooners Last Week #14 vs Iowa State : Won 50 - 20 I'm very concerned about this Sooners team vs Texas because if they come out like they did for the first 20 or so minutes vs Iowa State, then next week's game will be over by halftime. Next Week at #1 Texas : 6.5 pt underdogs : Prediction - Loses and Doesn't Cover the Spread
North Carolina Tar Heels Last Week #16 was a Bye Week Next Week vs Syracuse : 8.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins but Doesn't Cover the Spread
Missouri Tigers Last Week #17 at Vanderbilt : Won 38 - 21 I turned this game off when Mizzou went up 24 - 7 in the early 3rd, but it looks like they just went into cruise control instead of putting their foot down. I feel like that will eventually come back to bite them vs one of these teams. Next Week vs LSU : 6.5 pt underdogs : Prediction - Wins outright
Oregon State Beavers Last Week #20 vs #14 Utah : Won 21 - 7 Oregon State's defense made Utah's offense look like a low-tier FCS squad. At no point, did I think that Utah could've put up enough points to potentially win this game, I just need Oregon State's offense to finish more drives, even if this was against a pretty great defense from Utah as well. Next Week at Cal : 9.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Alabama Crimson Tide Last Week #19 at Mississippi State : Won 40 - 17 Mississippi State has the worst defense in the SEC but a good margin, so I can't reward this win too much for Bama, but at least they showed their first signs of life on offense since week 1. Next Week at Texas A&M : 2.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Maryland Terrapins Last Week #21 vs Indiana : Won 44 - 17 I don't understand how voters can have Maryland unranked when they are doing exactly what you would want against lesser competition. They have won each game by at least three scores and they just dominated Indiana, who played Louisville (AP #25) down to the wire. Next Week at #5 Ohio State : 19.5 pt underdogs : Wins Outright
Kentucky Wildcats Last Week #22 vs Florida : Won 33 - 14 Didn't understand why Florida was ranked last week and Kentucky wasn't going into the week, and it showed on the field. Kentucky dominated this game in the trenches and didn't let the Gators breathe all game. Next Week at #3 Georgia : 14.5 pt underdogs : Loses but Covers the Spread
Duke Blue Devils Last Week #12 vs #10 Notre Dame : Lost 14 - 21 If they put together even one of those 1st half drives together, we might be talking about them in the top 8 this week, but that does be how it goes sometimes. Really hope their QB can come back way sooner-than-later, but right now rumors are he won't be back until the November 11th game at UNC. Next Week is a Bye Week
Ole Miss Rebels Last Week NR vs #18 LSU : Won 55 - 49 There was entirely no defense in this game and I loved it. It seemed like whichever team had the ball last would win this game, and Ole Miss proved that by scoring the go-ahead TD with 39 seconds remaining. Next Week vs Arkansas : 11 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Doubles the Spread
Fresno State Bulldogs Last Week #24 vs Nevada : Won 27 - 9 I feel like we are witnessing the lead up to what could be the most important Mountain West game in it's history. Undefeated Air Force and Fresno State don't play each other in the regular season, and could meet in the Championship Game with a NY6 Bowl on the line. Next Week at Wyoming : 5.5 pt favorites : Prediction - Wins and Covers the Spread
Louisville Cardinals Last Week NR at NC State : Won 13 - 10 Louisville hasn't looked great this season, but the are undefeated going into October and have their first of four ranked games of the season this week. So we will really see if this 5 - 0 start was a bluff, or maybe Louisville can put together a 9/10 win season. Next Week vs #10 Notre Dame : 6.5 pt underdogs : Loses and Doesn't Cover the Spread
Tennessee Volunteers Last Week NR vs South Carolina : Won 41 - 20 I fully believe that Tennessee will hover around by #18 to about #30 all season and finish around 8 - 4, but we shall see. Next Week is a Bye Week
Air Force Falcons Last Week NR vs San Diego State : Won 49 - 10 Air Force has been dominating teams this season (even from a per down win-rate at Sam Houston week 2), and they deserve to be ranked if I'm going to give teams like Maryland and Louisville the nod too. Basically see what I put for Fresno State and put it here because I will be watching both of their games every week moving forward in hopes of that Great Mountain West Championship Game. Next Week is a Bye Week
