Overall Rationale: With the week ending one more step to the end of the college football season draws closer, the offseason may seem far away, but when we are ass-deep in June, talking about conference realignment for the 2nd month in a row, you will wish the season lasted longer. Next 5 out are Louisville, Air Force, LSU, Iowa, and Memphis
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Michigan Wolverines | Took care of Nebraska, which was enough for them to finally break through to #1 for me. You can argue they haven't played anyone, but they will, and the end of the season rankings are the only ones that really matter. |
| Texas Longhorns | Spanked a ranked Kansas in the 4th quarter, purely by resume they would be #1, but Michigan hasn't allowed more than 7 points in a game this season, which gets the nod for me. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Survived a scare against Auburn, you begin to wonder if Brock Bowers can carry this team through the rest of the season, or if they might slip up one of these games. |
| Washington Huskies | Won a close game against Arizona, as they start playing better teams we will soon see the true Washington team, have they been beating up on bad teams, or are they for real? |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Bye, that Notre Dame win looks pretty good after one week, and vs Maryland may turn out to be a possible challenge. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Bye, now that the Clemson game is behind us, we have to remember Clemson is a tough road environment, and despite them not being as good this year, that win vs Syracuse kept the Orange from being ranked, FSU will be fine. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Beat Northwestern in a game that was close through 3 quarters, Northwestern is looking much better than the preseason 1 win team people predicted, I am not looking forward to seeing the Badgers play them. |
| Oregon Ducks | Beat Stanford, playing Washington this coming week to determine if they are good, or if Colorado really is just that bad. |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | Handled Mississippi State, Bama is crawling up the rankings, and if someone doesn't beat them soon they'll be back in the national title conversation, no Bueno. |
| Washington State Cougars | Bye, beating Oregon State, who then turns around and beats Utah looks really good on the resume, shame the Cougars will be competing for Mountain West titles instead of PAC titles soon (I hope I'm wrong, (fuck Pat McAfee)) |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Beat up Iowa State, weird, I remember seeing lots of Hateful 8 fans in the preseason claiming the Big 12 didn't need OUT, and they they're the best teams in the conference anyway. Fort Worth, Lubbock, Manhattan, and Stillwater don't have much running through them right now. |
| USC Trojans | Survived vs Colorado, I would be much more lenient if Colorado wasn't smoked by Oregon last week, but going from up by 36 on 3 separate occasions, to only winning by 7 shows USC probably shouldn't be in the natty conversation until they figure out that whole defense thing. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | Bye, basically USC if they had a defense, only reason I have USC higher is because USCs offense is slightly better. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Barely beat Duke, most of what I have to say about this game I'll say in my Duke blurb, Notre Dame is incredibly lucky Duke choked as much as they did in the final 2 minutes. |
| Oregon State Beavers | Beat Utah, great way to respond after losing the PAC 2 title game, but the PAC 12 is such a mess they could still end up with 3-4 losses and be ranked. |
| Miami Hurricanes | Bye, Hurricanes continue to trend upwards, the canes just need to hope the rest of the ACC cannibalizes and falls apart on itself so Miami can win it. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Beat LSU, those nice Ole Miss fans storming the field to pick up their garbage! Maybe they can take their DC with them. |
| Missouri Tigers | Beat Vanderbilt, going forward Mizzou has one of the hardest SEC schedules, playing pretty much evert good team except Alabama, if the tigers can hold on to LSU, they could beat Georgia. They also sent me a massive booklet telling me to apply there. I'm not going to, but I appreciate the effort. |
| Utah Utes | Lost to Oregon State, that was embarrassing honestly, Utah has to get its stuff together before even better teams play them, and beat them by worse, Oregon State is only the 5th best team in the PAC, and they play 3/4 of the other teams, they don't play Washington State. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Beat South Carolina, with Florida getting handled by Kentucky, and still needing to play Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, and Georgia, the real Vols will be seen and tested by the end of this season. |
| Kentucky Wildcats | Beat Florida, impressive stuff, but they play Georgia next week, which is the perfect storm of getting ranked only to play a really good team, unfortunate. |
| Fresno State Bulldogs | Beat Nevada, despite Nevada being a pretty bad opponent you can't fault Fresno State for beating who they play, and they sure beat Nevada, I really hope we get 12-0 Fresno State vs 12-0 Air Force in the Mountain West championship game. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Lost to Notre Dame, where do I begin? Complete meltdown in the final 2 minutes, a pooch punt well within field goal range, missing a would be game winning safety, not using any timeouts to calm your team down, not blitzing the quarterback on 4th and 16! and giving up a 1st down on said 4th and 16 by the 25 year old quarterback taking it himself, and giving up a rushing touchdown when they were trying to kill the clock. And the cherry on top of this disastrous sundae is Riley Leonard being injured on the final failed drive in an injury that I hope didn't knock him out for the year. Duke's season isn't over, this wasn't a conference loss and the coaching staff can definitely learn from those errors, but that loss has to sting, also Justise Winslow touched it. |
| Tulane Green Wave | Beat UAB, I am really stretching to keep Tulane ranked, I Will admit that much, but Tulane is still a pretty good football team that lost to a Power 5 opponent because they didn't have their starting quarterback, hopefully next week vs Memphis will prove they can beat a quality opponent, that or Memphis takes the Greenies spot next week. |
| Maryland Terrapins | Beat Indiana, I went back and forth between Maryland, LSU, Louisville, and Air Force, in the end I think Maryland is the best among these teams, and gets the final spot on my ballot. |
