Overall Rationale: nan
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Georgia Bulldogs | I wouldn't be surprised if Georgia is unanimous even among the computer polls. At the very least, any human poll with Georgia not #1 has some serious explaining to do. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Notre Dame at #2 is a bit surprising, considering they have a loss and Michigan State doesn't. That will be a running theme early in this poll; being undefeated doesn't necessarily mean you're better. |
| Michigan State Spartans | The gap between Sparty and Notre Dame is ridiculously small (less than .0005 on a zero-to-one scale; meanwhile Georgia is .0875 ahead of Notre Dame), so it really feels like a 2a/2b situation between the two of them. |
| Michigan Wolverines | Obviously, Michigan wouldn't be in a four-team playoff if the season ended today. It's just that at the moment, my model thinks they're a better team than Oklahoma despite having a loss. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Cincinnati form a clear third tier of teams in my rankings, with Wake Forest not far behind. This is the part of the season where the top of the pack starts to separate from the rest. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Ohio State over Cincy/Wake can obviously be chalked up to strength of schedule. I'd probably put the Buckeyes ninth (behind those two and Alabama) were I still doing a human poll. |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | The G5 is screwed in this model, but that's primarily because of strength of schedule, and Cincy has one of the toughest G5 schedules. Even had they lost to Notre Dame, they would still be ranked #14; many other G5s would fall out of my top 25 with a single loss. (Case in point, Coastal Carolina has one loss and is ranked #39.) |
| Wake Forest Demon Deacons | My model isn't really sure what to do with Wake Forest. It just throws them at the back of the "okay, these teams are good" pile. |
| Oklahoma State Cowboys | |
| Alabama Crimson Tide | I'm unsure why Alabama isn't getting the same "quality loss" bump as Ohio State. My model's been low on Alabama even before they lost, probably because THEY AIN'T PLAYED NOBODY PAWWWWLLLLL or something in that regard. |
| Baylor Bears | |
| Iowa Hawkeyes | |
| Wisconsin Badgers | I'm unsure what's going on here. Maybe it's garbage in, garbage out, but more likely it's a fluke in my model. |
| BYU Cougars | |
| Auburn Tigers | |
| UTSA Roadrunners | |
| Kentucky Wildcats | |
| Ole Miss Rebels | |
