bretticus33 Ballot for 2021 Week 7

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 10, 2021, 3:11 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs The undisputed #1 in CFB now.  Even if Alabama pulled out a win, Georgia would have staked a claim for #1.  Elite defense, strong physical offense, all the talent in the world.  Next up is Kentucky for what might decide who wins the SEC East.
Iowa Hawkeyes HUGE win over Penn State in Kinnick.  Defense is still great and their offense is looking better.  Should be the favorite for the Big 10.
Cincinnati Bearcats Is #3 high?  Maybe, but they've earned it too.  Unfortunately for them they have less chances to impress than other teams below them do so this  could be their peak barring chaos around them.
Oklahoma Sooners There's no turning back now; this is Caleb Williams' team now and Oklahoma looked infinitely better with Williams playing and his presence changed the intensity on offense and defense. We'll see if Oklahoma can continue how they played in the 2nd half from here on.
Ohio State Buckeyes Nobody's really talking about it but Ohio State has quietly looked more and more like a CFP team the last few weeks with dominating offense and defense.  The Buckeyes are rolling again.
Michigan Wolverines They were able to pull it out against a Nebraska team that has played everyone sans Illinois very tough.  They pulled out the win, but they're clearly behind Iowa and Ohio State in the conference.
Penn State Nittany Lions Don't fall too far for me.  Penn State might beat Iowa if Sean Clifford doesn't leave the game and his health could be what determines how the rest of the season goes for Penn State.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Bye week and move up, but this team was playing much better their last couple games after a rough start to the season.  They're a player in the Big 12
Michigan State Spartans Sparty is back and they're a top 10 team.  Blew past Rutgers with a lot of huge touchdown plays and they finally went back to dominating.
Kentucky Wildcats Who would have thought Kentucky would be undefeated longer than Alabama in 2021?  Will Levis is playing well, the defense is strong, and Kentucky is rolling again.  Biggest test of the season with a road game at Georgia.
Alabama Crimson Tide The cracks had been showing in the Tide for the last few games.  Florida showed them and A&M fully exposed them.  The offense is talented but inexperienced and the defense needs some major work.  They still have plenty of chances to improve their resume and show they belong in the CFP.
Oregon Ducks Might be harsh to move them down after a bye week, but I really think the injuries are starting to take a big toll on Oregon and losing CJ Verdell is huge in the worst way.  Oregon can still prove me wrong but it'll be hard to.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Coastal Carolina is still hanging around.  Another dominant win but they're lacking some quality in their schedule.  Their next game will be their biggest test against App State, but first a bye week.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wake Forest is still maybe the best team in the ACC but they're looking much more vulnerable these last couple weeks.  Needed OT to beat a bad Syracuse.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Squeezed out another tight win, this time against Virginia Tech.  They feel due another loss unless they fix up their issues.  Jack Coan is their best QB by a mile though.
Texas A&M Aggies A&M had been arguably the most disappointing team this season but they pulled off the shocker of the season.  If A&M can carry the momentum from this win into the future, A&M will be a tough team to beat.
Ole Miss Rebels Ole Miss has a top 5 offense and Matt Corral might be the top pick in the next NFL draft.  But it turns out that defense isn't that improved and Ole Miss will have to rely on winning high scoring shootouts again.
BYU Cougars BYU looked really sloppy in their first loss of the season to a struggling Boise State team.  For whatever reason, it looked like the rain completely negated whatever BYU wanted to do.  They still have 3 PAC-12 wins, but there's clear flaws with their defense and the QB situation may not be ironed out.
NC State Wolfpack Bye week so little movement for NC State.  Their quest to win the ACC continues at Boston this weekend.
Arkansas Razorbacks Arkansas's dream start is quickly evaporating into a middling season.  Back-to-back losses for them after their defense was non-existent and they lost despite scoring 51 points.  They play Auburn but they're in danger of dropping 3 in a row.
Florida Gators Florida beat up on the SEC's doormat.  Everyone has been doing that.  They're still behind Arkansas due to not having a win like Arkansas's demolition of Texas.
San Diego State Aztecs Don't discount the Aztecs.  They're still undefeated and should be at least a favorite, if not the favorite, in what is looking like a very competitive Mountain West.  They'll soon begin a stretch that sees them play Fresno, Nevada, Boise State, and Air Force in a 6 game stretch.
Arizona State Sun Devils The Sun Devil defense might be the best in the conference and they're making life tough for opposing defenses.  I think the offense could improve but they'll be a player in the PAC-12.
SMU Mustangs They're still undefeated and no joke, but they barely survived a bad Navy team.  SMU is good but I'm not sure they'll be able to compete with Cincinnati yet.
Baylor Bears Baylor returns with a big win over West Virginia.  I like the way Baylor is playing and they are more than capable of plucking an upset or two from higher ranked Big 12 teams.
