stripes361 Ballot for 2019 Week 12

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Nov. 10, 2019, 8:40 p.m.

Overall Rationale: This is a forward-looking, predictive ballot. It is not a resume ranking. I start with an aggregate of the FPI and SP+ computer rankings and then adjust the teams based off of several "human" factors, including coaching, QB play, roster balance, eye test, and injuries. Because it is forward-looking, long-term injuries can significantly alter a team's ranking even before on-field performance has been affected.

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes
Clemson Tigers
LSU Tigers
Alabama Crimson Tide
Georgia Bulldogs
Oregon Ducks
Florida Gators
Penn State Nittany Lions
Oklahoma Sooners
Utah Utes
Auburn Tigers
Minnesota Golden Gophers Minnesota still at 19th in FPI. I have them significantly above where FPI would have them based on eye test but I can only ignore the computer numbers, and their poor showing in the season's first month, to a certain extent. The same ranking system also gives them the #4 Strength of Record, which makes this a perfect time to reiterate that if my ballot were a resume ranker I would have them much closer to, if not in, the Playoff at the current moment. The good news for the Gophers is that, with games against Iowa and Wisconsin and a potential CCG, they are going to have plenty of additional opportunities to bolster their ranking.
Wisconsin Badgers
Iowa State Cyclones
Michigan Wolverines
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Baylor Bears
Washington Huskies
Iowa Hawkeyes
Texas A&M Aggies
Memphis Tigers Memphis is 38th in FPI and 14th in SP+. Two hugely different narratives based on which computer system you favor.
SMU Mustangs
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Cincinnati Bearcats
UCF Knights Honorable Mention: USC, Texas, Navy, Indiana, Boise State, Air Force
