hokies220 Ballot for 2019 Week 12

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Nov. 10, 2019, 11:38 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Feel pretty good about most of my poll, harder to find some of the last few teams to rank that I feel deserve it more than others or what my computer had. As always I'll never rank two teams from the same conference in my top 4 as those games will be settled during the season.

Rank Team Reason
LSU Tigers (Computer #1: Ohio State) Can't really argue with 1 and 2 right now.
Ohio State Buckeyes (Computer #2: LSU) Clearly the top two teams in the country.
Clemson Tigers (Computer #3: Clemson) The ACC is bad, they've got no good wins. But they're undefeated and outside of one close game they've been doing just fine.
Baylor Bears (Computer #4: Penn State) Because I won't rank two teams from the same conference in my top 4, sorry Minnesota, I had to select a different team to fill this slot again. Kinda wanted Oregon, but I'm not going to look over an undefeated P5 team. I don't think they're the fourth best team, but I stand by my ranking them here if they playoff started today.
Minnesota Golden Gophers (Computer #5: Oregon) This is about as public a soapbox as I have so I'd like to say publicly that the CFP committee can suck my balls. Well earned win for Minnesota, and they still control their own destiny and play Iowa and Wisconsin to close out the season.
Penn State Nittany Lions (Computer #6: Auburn) PSU is still a fantastic team and shouldn't fall for losing a close game on the road to another fantastic team. But I bet Bama will still laughably be ranked ahead.
Oregon Ducks (Computer #7: Notre Dame) Couldn't really justify ranking them over PSU when they have a worse loss, and no equivalent wins.
Georgia Bulldogs (Computer #8: Wisconsin) Georgia is playing some nasty defense, but has a pretty bad loss. That said, they still firmly control their own destiny.
Utah Utes (Computer #9: Minnesota) Utes have, at least according to my computer, an ok loss but no great wins. Playing really well on both sides of the ball though and still have an outside shot at making the CFP.
Alabama Crimson Tide (Computer #10: Alabama) I feel like this spot is more than worthy for Bama this year. Their best win is who? Tennessee? The Aggies? They've played nobody good outside of LSU who they lost to and gave up 46 points at home. Fucking wish others would rank them appropriately. This team shouldn't even sniff the possibility of the CFP. If they win out their best win will be a 3 or 4 loss Auburn.
Oklahoma Sooners (Computer #11: Michigan) Iowa State nearly pulled it off. OU still has a good shot of making the CFP if they win out, but should they?
Florida Gators (Computer #12: Georgia) Beatdown a bad Vandy team. Yawn. Still the highest of the two loss teams over Wisconsin because they didn't lose to Illinois.
Wisconsin Badgers (Computer #13: Florida) Illinois is bowl eligible and while that's surprising and makes that loss a little less worse, they're still a four loss team. Potentially could still win the division if Minnesota drops one and then Wisconsin beats them.
Michigan Wolverines (Computer #14: Baylor) Had to keep them behind Wisconsin because of H2H.
Memphis Tigers (Computer #15: Utah) Manually slotted Memphis ten spots higher than my Computer did, they've got two ranked wins and still play Cincy. Cotton Bowl dream still alive.
Auburn Tigers (Computer #16: USC) My computer really likes Auburn, and really likes USC. Bye week stayed around the same spot, but they still play Georgia and Bama so they could really rise.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (Computer #17: OU) Manually slotted them down because while they've got two ranked losses, and technically a ranked win in my computer, their wins all have 2+ other losses so meh.
SMU Mustangs (Computer #18: SMU) ECU gave them all they could handle, but they won. Guess a retroactive apology for last week to Cincy would go here.
Cincinnati Bearcats (Computer #19: Cincinnati) A ho-hum 45 point win over UConn. They've basically wrapped up the division and still play Memphis.
Boise State Broncos (Computer #20: Boise State)  Took OT to put away Wyoming, but hey they got it done and Wyoming is a decent team. One slip up from the AAC leader could land Boise in the Cotton Bowl.
Texas Longhorns (Computer #21: Texas) Decided to follow the computer for them, on one hand I don't think they deserve it, on the other two of their losses are to highly ranked teams, and they've beaten OK State and Kansas St and LT I guess.
Navy Midshipmen (Computer #22: Iowa) I'll be honest that Navy wasn't in my top 30 for Computer rankings, but I do try and respect one loss teams this late in the season. Plus they play ND next so they've got their chance to really earn it.
Appalachian State Mountaineers (Computer #23: Washington) Even if SCAR is bad this year and App isn't undefeated they do technically have a transitive wins over Georgia and Clemson.
Iowa Hawkeyes (Computer #24: Kansas State) Really debated about who to put here. Indiana is 7-2 but has abysmal wins and a bad loss. Wake is 7-2, but has no good wins and two unranked losses. SDSU just lost to Nevada. Air Force probably would've made it had their game been played. Kansas State is really only propped up by the win over OU and nothing else. Went with Iowa for three top 15 losses by a total of 14 points despite having no good wins.
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (Computer #25: Memphis) I don't respect the CUSA. LT is barely in the top 50 of my computer poll. BUT. Regardless of schedule they're 8-1though with a pretty easy path towards winning the CUSA and being 12-1. They might be the worst 12 win team in history if that happens but hey for now congrats.
