crimsonlaw Ballot for 2019 Week 12

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 10, 2019, 6:47 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I rank them as I see them. Exception: the defending champs get the top spot until they lose.

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers Undefeated defending champs should have to lose before they get kicked from the top spot. Not a popular opinion, but one I own. The Tigers likely deserve to be ranked 3rd or 4th.
LSU Tigers They beat Bama in Tuscaloosa. That's the only thing they need on their resume. That and their undefeated record.
Ohio State Buckeyes I buy into the idea that this may be the most complete team. I would love to see the Buckeyes and (LSU) Tigers take each other on. It would be a fantastic championship game. Hope we get to see it.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama scores 41 points at home under Saban and loses. Did we ever think we would see this? They lost an amazing game, but it's clear the defense is severally flawed and Tua isn't 100%.
Oregon Ducks Oregon is a great team who is on pace to face Utah in what should be an amazing Pac-12 Championship game. So excited for that one.
Utah Utes Utah is a stout team. If they can run the table, they probably deserve a playoff spot.
Baylor Bears As we all expected, Baylor is the last undefeated in the Big 12. They aren't getting the respect they deserve. I guess if they can take down Oklahoma, people will pay attention to this team.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Wow. Did not expect them to defeat Penn State. I honestly thought the Golden Gophers were a paper tiger. Now they can make a run at the playoffs.
Georgia Bulldogs Such a good team that lost so much luster after losing to South Carolina. Defeating Auburn this week and LSU in the SEC Championship could still give the Dawgs a backdoor into the playoff.
Penn State Nittany Lions What a disappointing loss for the Nittany Lions. I really thought this would be their year to maybe win the conference. Maybe next year.
Oklahoma Sooners I love watching this team play, but I refuse to believe they are a real challenger for the playoffs. And they didn't really have any chances to prove me wrong. They need some help to reach the top 4.
Auburn Tigers This is a really good team with a couple of severe flaws, starting at QB and coaching. They can still knock off Georgia and Alabama, which would lead to a damn impressive resume. Still, this team should have been so much more.
Florida Gators Florida is an enigma to me. Their defense looks awesome at times, but then were stymied by Georgia. The offense has never looked overly impressive. I think they may be slightly overranked here and I don't under stand why the media still views them as a top 11 team.
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin needed that win against Iowa. I had a lot of faith in this team earlier in the season, but it didn't work out. They are playing for a NY6 bowl at this point, and need some help to get there.
Memphis Tigers I love the AAC this year, but I'm not sure which team is the best. I'm going with Memphis right now. I honestly believe they could beat most if not all of the teams ranked below them.
Cincinnati Bearcats But I also really like Cincinnati. Another very tough team that most other teams couldn't handle.
Michigan Wolverines I hated Michigan to start the year, but they have grown on me over the last few weeks. They should have a better record than what they sport, and I don't think they have a prayer against Ohio State, but this team is respectable.
Navy Midshipmen Another AAC entrant. And, honestly, I'll give the service academies a bump because I love seeing them ranked.
SMU Mustangs Another AAC powerhouse. I wonder how well a team the caliber of, say, Texas or USC would fair in the AAC this year.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame is a solid but not great team. They barely deserve to be ranked, but I'm sure they will finish as a top 15 team with a nice bowl game because of their name.
Indiana Hoosiers Go Hoosiers! 7-2! Ranked in the AP for the first time in decades! Love it! I hope they keep it up!
Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Solid little school who doesn't know how to leave. I'll always reward teams that know how to win.
Boise State Broncos I'm disappointed with the Broncos this year. I thought they would be the cream of the Go5 pack. They just barely survived a decent but not great Wyoming team. I'm not certain they will win the rest of their games.
Texas A&M Aggies Their record looks a bit weak, but look at who they've lost to. Clemson, Alabama, and Auburn are very quality losses. Of course, they still have LSU to dance with.
Appalachian State Mountaineers Only one loss and they just beat an SEC team. Props to the Mountaineers.
