Overall Rationale: My rankings are very fluid in the early weeks because I base most of my decisions upon games played. Using a hypothetical example: Week 1 - Utah State upsets Michigan State while Alabama beats Savannah State. I would rank Utah State ahead of Alabama because of the quality of the win. As the season goes along, especially once we hit the conference schedule, those will obviously change. Early week fluctuations can be severe.I also look at how games are played out as well as the eye test. These are not stringently weighted and are up to my discretion.

Cal was the most difficult to place. A close loss at home after their QB went down, and a quality win on the road at Washington. Comparing the resume of Cal to OU, at this point in the season, I still favor what Cal has done specifically for the quality road win |

OU, like others at 4-0 behind them, will jump up once they add a quality win. However, the bye week continues to underrank them on a resume basis. Very talented, great performances but the current resume is Houston, South Dakota, UCLA, and Texas Tech. That is not strong enough to warrant a top 10 ranking at this stage in the season. |
