hokies220 Ballot for 2018 Week 7

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 8, 2018, 9:53 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Things mostly make sense again this week. Since my formula doesn't really punish losses too much it kept Stanford ranked too highly, I try to not let two loss teams in yet, but Stanford and TAMU are in there and both are likely too high, but since strength of schedule is a big part of mine it's not surprising to see TAMU up there even if they've only got one good win.

Rank Team Reason
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Ball State, Vandy, and @Wake aren't all that great of wins. But Michigan, Stanford(even with their second loss), and @VT (even with lol ODU) are pretty good. They showed great second half adjustments and should be getting all the love they deserve.
Ohio State Buckeyes The win @PSU is still probably the best win of the year of any team. Rutgers, Oregon State, and Tulane are all bad, but TCU at a 'neutral' site and Indiana are decent. My rankin system definitely isn't perfect, because it still wanted to rank Indiana for some reason.
Alabama Crimson Tide Another week another utterly dominant win. Yawn.
Clemson Tigers Clemson killed a guy. Funnily enough they'd be ranked #2 had Syracuse not shit the bed.
Georgia Bulldogs Solidly in the #5 spot thanks to LSU losing.
Texas Longhorns Tied with LSU in points, and while they have the worse loss for sure I think OU is a better win than Auburn or Miami. Still though I know how crazy this is, but all they've done since losing to Maryland and struggling with Tulsa is beat P5 teams.
LSU Tigers Ah here's another example of something I hate with a team ranked right ahead of the team they just lost to. It was really close only about .4 points difference, but since I don't punish losses too much  it's really more of a testament to how far Florida jumped up.
Florida Gators Rose from #14 to here so if you're a Gator fan and mad about being behind LSU after just beating them, y'all can deal with it because Kentucky is behind y'all and they beat you.
Oklahoma Sooners Didn't far too fall losing a close game at a neutral site against not only an arch rival, but my #11 last week.
Michigan Wolverines Solid win for Michigan, they've been playing really well most of the season.
Penn State Nittany Lions Dropped a tiny bit on a bye week even though they still got some points for some of their wins winning games.
Kentucky Wildcats Oh what could've been for them, a win on the road against TAMU would've likely put them top 6.
West Virginia Mountaineers I actually like WVU around here rather than top ten in the AP poll. They're very good, but the schedule is lack luster at this point. Wish they could've played against NCSU.
Washington Huskies Kinda struggled with a bad UCLA team. Utah gave them a nice little boost, but with BYU and Auburn losing they actually dropped a little.
Stanford Cardinal Here's the big outlier of the poll. I nearly chose to remove them anyways like I did for a few other outliers, but the loss to ND is forgivable for sure, and they still have wins vs SDSU, USC, and Oregon. I think they belong around #23 though not this high.
Miami Hurricanes Rose four spots for a win in a rivalry game. Of course they didn't make it easy on themselves, but they won and that's what counts.
NC State Wolfpack I still wish they had gotten to play WVU, I don't know how good NCSU is because they just earned their best win against a BC team without it's best player. And it was a one possession win.
Texas A&M Aggies Didn't really like including them in the top 20, but can't deny a win against Kentucky and all the points they get for beating an undeafeted team. Plus they gave Clemson a scare and made Bama actually try a little bit.
USF Bulls No movement for the Bulls despite winning and having their two P5 wins also win, but when your last two wins are against bad teams it makes sense.
Iowa Hawkeyes Had they not had some ridiculously bad luck against Wisconsin they might be a top 12 team. As it is though they manage to slide in just ahead of Wisconsin for having Iowa State and NIU win their games and for Minnesota being a better win than Nebraska.
Duke Blue Devils I might be one of the only polls with Duke still ranked, but Army is a good win and NW and Baylor both won their games. VT losing to ND doesn't cost them much.
Wisconsin Badgers Welcome back, try to not lose to BYU again. And I know I know y'all beat Iowa.
Colorado Buffaloes Finally make it back into the poll. They're undefeated but the wins are not that impressive. ASU has two other losses including a G5 loss and that's their best win.
UCF Knights Welcome back for the firs time since week 2. Finally are putting together wins against teams that aren't complete ass. I'd love to have y'all higher than #24.
Cincinnati Bearcats Tied in points with UCF, but I think UCF is the better team.
