GenialGiant Ballot for 2018 Week 7

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 9, 2018, 12:21 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I return to my hybrid poll, which helps explain the strange results. Teams must be within 15 positions of their computer rankings (parentheses). Somehow my model is yielding more strange results than it did last week. I'm very tired, so my discussion points will be shorter than sometimes. Sorry. First N Out - Stanford (24)

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide This spot belongs to Bama until Saban runs out of babies to feed the White Walkers. (4)
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State had a bit of difficulty with Indiana for a bit, but ended up putting them away quite nicely. (1)
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia's beatings of SEC opponents continue, with the latest victim being Vanderbilt. (10)
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The Irish remain undefeated following a win at VT. (3)
Clemson Tigers Clemson regains some ground after a convincing win over Wake Forest. (7)
Texas Longhorns My model liked Texas, and that was even before they upset Oklahoma. (8)
Florida Gators Florida is looking more and more like a very dangerous team after knocking off LSU. (9)
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State was off this week, but Ohio State's performance helps them retain some level of respect. (11)
LSU Tigers A tough loss for the Tigers, but the team hangs on to a position in the top 10. (15)
Oklahoma Sooners A loss to Texas is not what this team needed, and their ranking falls as a result. (6)
Michigan Wolverines Michigan grades out incredibly well in my model, which helps offset how poorly they grade in my head. (2)
Kentucky Wildcats A tough break for Kentucky, but this team is still in a position to do well this season. (5)
Washington Huskies Washington struggled with winless UCLA and falls as a result. (14)
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin is still playing catch-up following their loss to BYU, but continue to make strides to that effect. (21)
Texas A&M Aggies Texas A&M is easily the best two-loss team in the country and showed it in their win over Kentucky. (12)
Iowa Hawkeyes After a brief hiatus, Iowa returns to my top 25 following a win over Minnesota. (19)
Mississippi State Bulldogs Mississippi State knocked off Auburn and bounces back as a result. (18)
Auburn Tigers Auburn was knocked off by, you guessed it, Mississippi State, and falls as a result. (17)
Cincinnati Bearcats The sole G5 team here, Cincinnati has a strong enough resume to earn themselves a place in the top 25. (25)
South Carolina Gamecocks South Carolina clearly isn't one of the top SEC teams, but they aren't slouches either. (23)
Maryland Terrapins Maryland has had a number of close losses, but this model doesn't punish those much. (16)
Miami Hurricanes After an under-whelming performance against FSU, Miami falls in the rankings. (37)
Missouri Tigers Missouri may have lost to South Carolina, but they can still have a great season. (38)
Boston College Eagles It seemed odd to put BC on here, but my model thinks they deserve it, so here we are. (29)
West Virginia Mountaineers According to my model, West Virginia hasn't played any particularly hard opponents, leaving them ranked pretty low so far. (40)
