Overall Rationale: The SEC is an absolute mess right now. If Georgia loses this upcoming weekend (pls no) then it'll only get worse. Seemingly everyone is upset at the AP and Coaches polls because they ignored the transitive property: A&M>Kentucky>Florida>LSU=MissSt>Auburn. I don't necessarily buy into the whole "X beat Y so therefore X is better than Y period, no questions asked" mentality. If that were the case, then upsets wouldn't exist because then the underdog would immediately become "the better team" and the favored team would get banished to the shadow realm. However, when teams have similar resumes (i.e. record) I think it's fair to use the transitive property some. If I were working solely off transitive victories, A&M would be ahead of Kentucky ~#13. The main thing holding them back is the fact that they have an additional loss. Also Kentucky has wins over MissSt and SCar whereas A&M's next best win is a close one over the 1-5 porcine bunch. Lastly, I gave some of my friends crap for wanting to drop Miami entirely out after their week 1 loss to LSU (which would've been a drop of 18+ spots), yet I find myself doing exactly the same with Auburn this week. Oops. Auburn will still crawl back into the rankings, I'm sure of it. It's just that all the other spots I have filled in 20-25 are either undefeated G5s, undefeated P5s, MissSt (who beat them), and A&M (whose only two losses are to top 5 teams and just picked up a ranked win themselves).
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | |
| Georgia Bulldogs | |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | |
| Clemson Tigers | |
| West Virginia Mountaineers | |
| UCF Knights | |
| Washington Huskies | |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | |
| Texas Longhorns | |
| Michigan Wolverines | |
| Oklahoma Sooners | |
| Kentucky Wildcats | Kentucky > Florida and that game was played in The Swamp. |
| Florida Gators | Kentucky>Florida>LSU. |
| LSU Tigers | LSU's one loss is to Florida. You could argue that maybe LSU would win in Death Valley or at a neutral site but that would be unfair to Florida fans. LSU's win over Auburn doesn't look as great as before (even though it was at Jordan-Hare) but they still have the Miami W. Resume wise, I think they slightly edge out Florida but hey both teams have the same number of losses and UF has the head-to-head. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | |
| Miami Hurricanes | |
| Appalachian State Mountaineers | |
| Oregon Ducks | |
| NC State Wolfpack | |
| Colorado Buffaloes | |
| Texas A&M Aggies | Already typed plenty about you guys in the overall rationale. |
| USF Bulls | |
| Mississippi State Bulldogs | Same # of losses as Auburn but have the head-to-head. |
| Cincinnati Bearcats | Hello, bearcats. I think I now *finally* have all 11 undefeated team in my poll. What can I say, I like giving respek to the G5s. |
