woakley Ballot for 2018 Week 6

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 30, 2018, 2:49 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Started from prior weeks poll and then moved teams based on the results of the week. Dropping out of my Poll this week were the following teams with their prior week rankings: #20 Mississippi State, #23 Cal #24 BYU New Teams this week - #22 NC State, #23 Florida, #25 Appalachian State

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama is still Alabama. Not sure how anyone else could be considered 1 at this point
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia beats another SEC opponent soundly. Argument to be made for Ohio State jumping Georgia, but they aren't quite there yet to me.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State jumps to 3 over Clemson. Ohio State pulled out one against Penn State and pulled off a pretty strong comeback to get there. This is obviously a good team, but they havent quite been dominant enough yet to jump into the top 2
Oklahoma Sooners Oklahoma drops up. Not really as a result of their game this week but just as their overall body of work. They had a big scare last week, but Army has proven they are a solid team. Outside of that they have been pretty dominant. Big test against Texas this week will tell us where they really are.
Clemson Tigers Clemson drops 2 spots. Too many scares this season so far, and i'm not sold on Lawrence yet. A&M and Syracuse are good teams, but this is not the same dominant Clemson team we've seen in years past.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Notre Dame hops over LSU. Stanford may have been overrated after a week where they should have lost to Oregon, but ND still deserves credit for dominating such a talented team.
LSU Tigers LSU won convincingly against Ole Miss. They only drop because Notre Dame moves up. Another big test for them this week against Florida.
UCF Knights UCF moves from 10 to 8 because Penn State and Stanford dropped out in front of them. Theres no reason for anyone to jump them after a dismantling of Pitt this week.
Auburn Tigers Auburn wins against Southern Miss. They havent looked nearly as strong in recent weeks as they did early in the season. They stay in the top 10, but they need to get it going before they get into the heart of SEC play.
Washington Huskies Washington had a dominating win over BYU this week. They've had a stretch of strong play since their week one loss, and the only reason they're still behind Auburn at this point is that Auburn beat them head to head.
West Virginia Mountaineers West Virginia continues to creep up in the rankings. I didnt have Texas Tech ranked last week, so it wasnt a ranked win in my book, but its still an impressive win against a quality opponent.
Penn State Nittany Lions Penn State was a puzzling play call and a rough 4th quarter away from having a real shot to upset Ohio State. They need to drop after the loss because there are undefeated teams more deserving right now, but Penn State is clearly able to compete with the better teams in the nation. Their question is coaching not talent at this point.
Stanford Cardinal Stanford needed miracles to win this week, and then they got dominated by a powerful Notre Dame team. Stanford is still talented, but this loss hurts.
Miami Hurricanes Miami has looked like a completely different team since their week one embarrassment against LSU. They continue to beat up on the teams they've played. If they want to be taken seriously they'll have to continue that against FSU.
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin had a bye week. Nothing else to mention.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky with another solid win against an SEC opponent. They keep racking up solid wins this year, but one of their toughest tasks of the season this far will come against A&M this week.
Michigan Wolverines I still dont believe in Michigan, and having to come from behind to beat Northwestern doesn't help that. I just need to see more from Michigan to move them significantly.
Oregon Ducks Oregon dominated a ranked Cal team this week. I can only think that this season will be one big what if for Oregon. If they could have held on against Stanford things would be so different this year.
Colorado Buffaloes Colorado pounded a  floundering UCLA team this week. Thats their strongest win of the season so far, which isnt saying much, but they are still undefeated to this point so they deserve some respect.
Texas Longhorns Texas held off a late comeback by Kansas state this week. They lose, and Kansas state isnt a bad team so thats no problem. They Move up a few spots, but thats more a function of the teams in front of them losing.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU survives against Iowa State, but they drop because the quality wins just arent there yet. They dont have bad losses, but they've yet to show any real dominance to this point.
NC State Wolfpack NC State jumps in this week. They haven't really played anyone yet, but just like Colorado they deserve some respect for still being undefeated.
Florida Gators Florida had a solid victory against Mississippi State this week. Their only loss this year is to Kentucky which doesnt look bad at all now. This is a talented Florida team and we will see what happens with LSU this week.
Duke Blue Devils Duke with a disappointing loss to Virginia Tech this week. They drop way down, but their body of work thus far still deserves a ranking.
Appalachian State Mountaineers App State gets some love from me. They havent played anyone other than Penn State to this point, but they played Penn State to the wire and they have just dominated every other opponent they've played this far. Is this premature? Maybe. But I think App State has a strong chance to run the table for the remainder of the year.
