joebob431 Ballot for 2018 Week 6

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 1, 2018, 2:41 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Notre Dame Fighting Irish The poll recognizes ND's win over Stanford to be the single best win any team has collected so far this season. The addition of a win over Michigan means that Notre Dame has 2 top 20 wins, more than any other team in the country. Note: Although the poll doesn't incorporate roster changes into its methodology, the change to Ian Book really aids ND in putting rough games against Ball St and Vanderbilt behind them.
LSU Tigers An away win vs #25 Auburn, a blowout win vs #27 Miami, and a solid win against a secretly decent #33 Louisiana Tech bolster a pretty solid resume for the Tigers. A win at Florida this weekend may be enough to push LSU to the top.
Alabama Crimson Tide Possessing the worst SOS of the top 3, the Tide's best win comes against #48 Ole Miss. But when you win every game by 40...
Ohio State Buckeyes A big win over #14 Penn State is buoying this resume
Oklahoma Sooners Best win: #21 Army
Clemson Tigers Best win: #26 Syracuse
Georgia Bulldogs Best win: #29 South Carolina
Kentucky Wildcats Best wins: #29 South Carolina, #31 Florida
NC State Wolfpack The weakest SOS among top 10 teams, NC State is a bit of surprise here. Best win: #56 Virginia
Stanford Cardinal Sporting a top 10 SOS, Stanford's rank isn't harmed too much by a loss to #1 Notre Dame. Best Win: #38 USC, #41 Oregon
West Virginia Mountaineers Best win: #43 Texas Tech.
Texas Longhorns Best Win: #38 USC
Michigan State Spartans Despite a rough loss to middling Arizona State, the Spartans have a pair of good wins against 4-1 Indiana and 3-1 Utah State.
Penn State Nittany Lions Losing to #4 Ohio State is a missed opportunity, but it won't hurt their score much. Pitt and Kent State are doing them no favors, but #77 Illinois might be borderline mediocre? Best Win: #54 App State
USF Bulls 3 wins over approximately .500 teams plus an FCS team isn't much, but at least the Bulls are undefeated. They won't face an opportunity to pick up a real resume booster until Wk09 @ Houston. Best win: #77 Illinois
Maryland Terrapins Best Win: #12 Texas, obviously, but destroying otherwise undefeated #32 Minnesota (3-1) is pretty good too. The Terrapins really missed an opportunity to be top 10(?!?) by dropping the inexplicable game against Temple. They face #18 Michigan in the Big House this week, so we will see if Maryland sticks around.
Indiana Hoosiers Best Win: #56 Virginia
Michigan Wolverines The loss against Noter Dame isn't hurting them much, but teams they beat are going 0.333 so far this year. Looking at you, Nebraska.
UCF Knights Best wins: #87 Pitt and #88 FAU.UCF is comfortably undefeated, and there isn't much else to say
Washington Huskies Best win: #46 Arizona State
Army West Point Army is 3-2, the only 2 loss team in my ranking, but the also have the 3rd hardest schedule of games played so far. In their 3 wins, Army has beat teams that are a combined 11-1 in games not against Army. They also don't have any dumb losses holding them back
Duke Blue Devils Best win: #21 ArmyIf this weren't a computer ranking, I would not have Duke below Army. The computer's prioritization of SOS means Duke will need wins better than #64 Baylor and #96 Northwestern to add to its resume. Miami and Clemson are the only teams that meet that standard remaining on the schedule.
Boise State Broncos Best win: #40 Troy
Cincinnati Bearcats The worst SOS of all ranked teams, #126 (but better than Colorado, who boasts SOS #130)Wins: #78 Ohio, #107 UConn, #110 Miami OH, #115 UCLA, #NR FCS
Auburn Tigers Best win: #20 Washington (4-1)There isn't many bright spots outside of that Washington win. Struggling against #95 S. Miss might have been a result of keeping the playbook simple, but Auburn needs to find an offense if they are going to survive the remainder of their brutal schedule.
