Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | No explanation needed. Top-5 are all pretty interchangeable at this point. |
| Clemson Tigers | Bumped them up to two because they have the best win so far, and Top-5 are all pretty interchangeable at this point. |
| Washington Huskies | It's fun to watch them absolutely ruin teams. Top-5 are all pretty interchangeable at this point. |
| Michigan Wolverines | just lol @ Rutgers. Top-5 are all pretty interchangeable at this point. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Couple slow starts here and there have them down here, but there's not real justification for it. Top-5 are all pretty interchangeable at this points, so it doesn't matter much anyways. |
| Louisville Cardinals | No question they're still the best one loss team in the country.  |
| Texas A&M Aggies | Survived Tennessee. It feels like they've "survived" more than a couple teams this year. |
| Virginia Tech Hokies | Ever since that disastrous fumble-fest against Tennessee they have been steamrolling forward. I would have never expected Fuente's offense to work so well so immediately. |
| Houston Cougars | It's hard to go undefeated, man. I think Navy was severely underrated going into this game, and it still took Houston stepping on its own foot a half-dozen times to lose by one possession. This doesn't make Houston much less of a great team. |
| Wisconsin Badgers | That LSU win is going to be impossible to judge with Orgeron in charge now, so I'll just lock it in as "solid win" regardless of what happens to LSU this year. Michigan State? Getting less impressive by the week. Losing @Mich by only 7 was still a great legitimizer for this team. |
| Florida State Seminoles | Easily the toughest schedule in the nation so far. The defense showed a little life and two wins over teams still ranked in the mid-low teens gives them a wonky resume to try to fit in with the rest of the rankings.  |
| Ole Miss Rebels | there are really only a couple teams on this poll I would pick to beat Ole Miss on a neutral field right now. |
| Miami Hurricanes | Miami's first real test... actually made FSU's defense look good, which is not a positive. Miami's defense though proved that it could be pretty great which is really good! |
| Tennessee Volunteers | The magic finally ran out, but that win over Virginia Tech looks better every day. |
| Nebraska Cornhuskers | Nebraska's best win as of right now might be a 3 point home win against an Oregon team that may not be bowl eligible. @Indiana next week is now officially their hardest test. |
| Baylor Bears | coming back to beat 1-5 Iowa State by 3 points inspires little confidence in me. |
| Utah Utes | Solid win against a bad Arizona. It's hard to judge this team without a single team with a winning record in its schedule. |
| USF Bulls | USF has been cruising past inferior competition so far, they look like easy AAC East favorites. |
| Boise State Broncos | All the sudden Washington State doesn't look like so bad of a win.  |
| LSU Tigers | Sure why not! LSU was robbed of a game I had high confidence in them winning - there's still a horrifying schedule ahead though. |
| Oklahoma Sooners | Denying Texas the win was the least they could do, but their defense has some serious issues with the rest of the big-12 schedule looming. |
| North Carolina Tar Heels | Playing a game in the wake of a hurricane always sucks. Having the heavy rain completely take away the strongest element of your offense (the passing game) is just downright unfortunate. |
| Arizona State Sun Devils | They beat a a UCLA team that is quickly falling apart, and held them to -1 rushing yards which is pretty sweet. They look like one of two Pac-12 South teams capable of maintaining some semblance of decency. |
| Western Michigan Broncos | Forget the strength of schedule, undefeated is undefeated and the offense is humming along and the defense is doing enough that they're far outclassing the rest of the MAC. |
| Navy Midshipmen | Navy yeah! Solid rebound after the loss the airforce, limiting the mistakes and letting Houston make theirs is how you take advantage of a game you're favored big-time to lose. |
