Khavanon Ballot for 2016 Week 7

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 9, 2016, 4:56 p.m.

Overall Rationale: This is my first computer ballot of the season, so if some teams drop after a good week while other rise after a bad week... I don't mean for it to go that way. I try to use the unreleased, early versions of the computer ballot to influence my human vote a bit as I approach the first release (hence the hybrid label for those ballots) but it never seems to line up well enough by the time the computer ballot officially comes out. Maybe I should just wait to release it until the CFP Poll joins the conversation, but this algorithm usually produces a few unforeseen gems in advance of the national spotlight. It also seems to predict playoff teams quite well. The first part of the season is really chaotic on a computer ballot, so early rankings are of no use in my opinion. But I never miss a chance to vote, so I'm sure to fill in all of the ballots leading up to my first computer release. When I vote, I usually try to get my ballot in before the other polls come out so I don't have that influence on my rankings. Some choose to release their computer ballots early anyway, and maybe they're doing something different (perhaps it works), but I'm always very happy with my ballot in the second half of the season. I'm happy to answer any questions about my ballot and the system that produces it, so feel free to ask. Based off of my experience with the ballot, I generally consider the ratings to reflect the quality of the team like so: >90 = true championship contender (usually 1 to 3 teams), 80-90 = playoff quality team (can range from 3 to 10 teams), 70-80 = rankable team, <70 = not rankable, but a spot needed to be filled. Sometimes I have too many 70's, sometimes not enough, as in this case.
