Overall Rationale: Rules is rules, last week stated that losing in CC will be at most a minimal drop relative to playoff standings. This still holds. Admittedly some creative liberties were taken so that the bracket would have fewer rematches. Detailed explanations for each rank are skipped this week mostly since a lot are obvious. Also this is borderline a shitpost near the end because Duke happened. No next 10 is named here but it's fairly similar to last week, plus maybe a few conference losers.
| Rank | Team | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 |
Indiana Hoosiers
Obvious #1. |
| 2 |
Texas Tech Red Raiders
+1. Ran over BYU, and by previous rankings, BYU > Bama |
| 3 |
Georgia Bulldogs
+1. |
| 4 |
Ohio State Buckeyes
-3. Preferred conference champions, and they still get first round bye, so this is fine. |
| 5 |
Ole Miss Rebels
| 6 |
Oregon Ducks
| 7 |
Texas A&M Aggies
+1. |
| 8 |
BYU Cougars
-1. Lowest that could drop while still keeping home playoff game in this hypothetical rankings (they screwed this team from the start by being locked at #11) |
| 9 |
Oklahoma Sooners
| 10 |
Alabama Crimson Tide
EVEN. CC is basically a bonus game, they don't get penalized for it in playoff rankings. Thus Miami and Notre Dame (in that order) are first two teams out. At least I have consistency and didn't screw ND on the selection day. |
| 11 |
Miami Hurricanes
| 12 |
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
EVEN. This is their ranking subject to the playoff rankings, not considering bowl games. Yes they are getting dropped hard given their debacle. |
| 13 |
Vanderbilt Commodores
| 14 |
Utah Utes
| 15 |
Texas Longhorns
| 16 |
Tulane Green Wave
+7. Probably the weirdest change since this is an unusually high jump, but this team does reasonably deserve 11 seed over JMU, so this happens. The alternative would be rewarding USC for not playing by bumping them up to reduce this rank increase. Also if this team was a 12 seed they'd be thrown into a rematch against Ole Miss, which no one really wants to see again. |
| 17 |
James Madison Dukes
+1. By Tulane being 11 seed, they must take 12 seed. Absolute chaos! |
| 18 |
Virginia Cavaliers
-2. Since they are well out of playoff rankings, they get a slight rank drop. Only slightly since their championship game was close. |
| 19 |
USC Trojans
EVEN. Considering the previous H2H against Michigan, it feels justifiable to make the gap between them more significant, and this way, they don't drop any ranks. |
| 20 |
North Texas Mean Green
-4. Takes a heavier drop than Virginia due to the championship game not really being close. |
| 21 |
Michigan Wolverines
-1 |
| 22 |
Houston Cougars
-1 |
| 23 |
Arizona Wildcats
-1 |
| 24 |
Navy Midshipmen
EVEN. UNLV would be #25, but they lost and are well out of the playoff rankings. So the last spot is mostly a "screw it, who do I feel like throwing in there" spot. |
| 25 |
Duke Blue Devils
(+15) Also winner of the sickos national championship, according to me. Will they remain here on the final rankings? Almost certainly no even with a win, but screw it, they're ACC champs. They can have this one. |
