Overall Rationale: I'm more forgiving towards losses than other polls. If you lose but rebound from that loss well, look good in defeat, or show a lot of hard-to-ignore talent, chances are I'll be inclined to give you a mulligan. Your record still means a lot, but it doesn't define your ranking; your overall body of work and how you perform in those games do (AKA the Virginia rule). Rankings are subjective, and I acknowledge that I have different opinions and methodologies than others, which I try to embrace as part of the subjectivity of the process (within reason).
