DampFrijoles Ballot for 2025 Week 8

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 13, 2025, 7:47 p.m.

Overall Rationale: A team must receive votes in either of the major human polls (AP and Coaches for FBS*, FCS Coaches and Stats Perform for FCS) to be considered. The polls I use: AP, Coaches, FCS Coaches (FCS only), Stats Perform (FCS only), Anderson & Hester (when available), Billingsley, CFP (when available), Colley, Congrove, Massey, and Sagarin. I award 25 points to the team listed highest in the respective poll through to one point for the 25th-ranked team (in the event a computer poll lists a team in its top 25 that did not receive votes in a human poll, that team is skipped and the points are awarded to the next-highest team that has received votes in a human poll). Once the top 25 is established, fractional points are awarded to the remaining teams based on their vote percentage/computer poll percentage relative to the 25th-place team (e.g. #25 Team A gets 100 votes and #26 Team B gets 95 votes, so Team B gets .950 points in my equation). The two human polls are averaged equally between them, and the computer polls are averaged equally among the other computer polls. The “computer total” is then averaged with the “human total,” with the average being weighted 55/45 toward the computer total. I then take the resulting numbers and rearrange based on a personal eye test (including, but not limited to, common opponents, win differential, home/road performance). Any teams that remain undefeated after every team has played at least one conference and one non-conference game will automatically be ranked. In the interest of equity/combating P4 bias in polls, I tend to give the “tie to the runner” in favor of G5 teams over P4 teams if I think two schools are relatively similar. Except in extraordinary circumstances, teams will not be ranked below a team with 2 or more losses than them (e.g. a 4–2 team will not be ranked higher than a 6–0 team). I “reset” the poll order each week based on how the formula works out, so massive jumps/falls that seem outrageous can happen. But I try to temper those with my “eye test.”
