quantum_jedi Ballot for 2025 Week 7

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 5, 2025, 12:50 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing, and by the preceding two years' performance. Results are scaled by offensive and defensive points per drive efficiencies, and strength of schedule determined by opponents score normalized throughout the season. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season(s)' success. Next five out:

Rank Team Reason
Ohio State Buckeyes (+1) Thumped Minnesota. The Buckeyes move into the top spot riding an insane defense that is yet to concede double digits.
Texas A&M Aggies (+2) The Aggies wore down a surprisingly good Mississippi State team. Texas A&M certainly wasn't perfect, committing 9 penalties, but you've got to feel good if this is the result.
Ole Miss Rebels (+0) On BYE this week. Should move to 6-0 next week when Washington State comes to Oxford.
Miami Hurricanes (+1) Almost let FSU crawl back, but Miami looked dominant for most of the game. Solid road win with their second BYE already next.
Oregon Ducks (-4) On BYE. Oregon drops due to the Penn State win not being quite as good as it looked last week and there being a logjam for #2-5 in these rankings. Huge game next with Indiana coming to town.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+4) Back-to-back wins over ranked teams and the Tide look like serious contenders. Thankfully for Alabama most of their upcoming opponents are ranked. The road trip to South Carolina in three weeks could be a trap.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-1) On BYE this week. The Yellow Jackets get a struggling Hokies team coming to town next.
Georgia Bulldogs (+6) After a heartbreaker against Alabama, the Bulldogs took out some frustrations against Kentucky. They travel to Auburn next.
LSU Tigers (-2) On BYE this week. South Carolina comes to Baton Rouge next.
Arizona State Sun Devils (-2) On BYE. The Sun Devils travel to Salt Lake City for a tough road game against the Utes.
Texas Tech Red Raiders (+7) Another impressive win for the Red Raiders! Texas Tech looks great!
Oklahoma Sooners (+1) Evaporated Kent State, so not much to take away from that. Red River Shootout looms, but I expect the Oklahoma defense to wreck havoc on Texas and Arch Manning.
Indiana Hoosiers (-2) On BYE. Massive road trip to Eugene next week.
BYU Cougars (+2) Good win for the Cougars off a short week. They travel to Arizona next week.
USC Trojans (-3) On BYE. Michigan travels to Los Angeles for what should be a really fun game.
Vanderbilt Commodores (-7) Tough loss for the Commodores against Alabama, but Vanderbilt looks great and should continue to be a menace in the SEC.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+8) Handily beat Boise State. The Irish look to have found their stride. NC State travels to South Bend next.
TCU Horned Frogs (+5) Took care of business against a feisty Colorado squad. The Horned Frogs travel to Manhattan next week.
Missouri Tigers (-2) On BYE. The Tigers get a surging Alabama at home next week, which should be must watch.
Illinois Fighting Illini (+4) Struggled a bit more than you would have liked against an improved Purdue, but a good in-conference road win for the Illini.
Tennessee Volunteers (+1) On BYE. The Volunteers get a weird Arkansas team at home next week.
Michigan Wolverines (+6) Solid win for the Wolverines over Wisconsin. Michigan now travels to USC for what should be a great game.
Washington Huskies (+7) Gutsy comeback for the Huskies against a young, but talented Maryland. Washington now has a short week, but at least gets Rutgers at home on Friday.
Iowa State Cyclones (-9) Tough loss for the Cyclones at Cincinnati who will look to rebound with another road trip to Colorado next.
Memphis Tigers (+6) Memphis breaks into these polls with a drubbing of Tulsa. BYE week next before a road trip to UAB.
