quantum_jedi Ballot for 2025 Week 4

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Sept. 14, 2025, 5 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing, and by the preceding two years' performance. Results are scaled by offensive and defensive points per drive efficiencies, and strength of schedule determined by opponents score normalized throughout the season. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season(s)' success. Fixed an error in the code, so there are a few dramatic changes. Next five out: Auburn, North Texas, Rutgers, BYU, TCU.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks (+0) The final score appears deceptive as Northwestern scored all their points in garbage time. Lots of little errors for Dan Lanning to work-on.
Georgia Bulldogs (+2) One of the most fun games of the weekend to watch. Great win on the road for the Dawgs!
LSU Tigers (+2) A little closer than you would like against a Florida team that looks like it might be imploding. Still a solid win against a talented team.
Ohio State Buckeyes (-1) The Buckeye defense looks phenomenal and completely shut down Ohio and Parker Navarro.
Ole Miss Rebels (+1) The model loves the Rebels despite a dicey win against the Razorbacks. Very interesting match-up next week against Tulane.
Texas A&M Aggies (+1) The Aggies finally won a big out-of-conference road game! Defense looked very suspect, but great win for A&M.
Penn State Nittany Lions (-5) Hard to takeaway anything meaningful after beating up Villanova. Penn State drops solely because of better wins by teams at the top.
Miami Hurricanes (+4) Impressive win for the Hurricanes over a resurgent USF squad.
Iowa State Cyclones (+10) Not a great win for the Cyclones, but I corrected an error with the Cyclones previous scoring and they rise drastically. We'll see if the Cyclones can keep rolling next against a surprisingly impressive Arizona team.
USC Trojans (-2) Good road win for USC over an improved Purdue team. Much closer than you would like, so the Trojans slide a bit.
NC State Wolfpack (+19) Another good win for the Wolfpack and shut down Wake in the second half. Big jump due to a code error...
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (+12) Heck of a win for the Yellow Jackets! Brent Key has Georgia Tech rolling. If this team is for real, there is a very serious chance that Georgia Tech meets Georgia as an undefeated team...
Illinois Fighting Illini (+0) Smothered Western Michigan. Illinois looks very good.
Missouri Tigers (+12) Big jump for the Tigers due to correction an error, but regardless of that, great showing for Mizzou over Louisiana.
Indiana Hoosiers (-6) Crushed Indiana State, but drop due to better wins for other teams.
Oklahoma Sooners (+5) Smashed Temple. Mateer looks good and the OU defense is awesome.
Vanderbilt Commodores (+18) Wow, Vanderbilt completely crushed South Carolina. Clark Lea is working magic with the Commodores.
Texas Tech Red Raiders (+0) Shutout a reeling Oregon State for three quarters. There appears to be a very interesting upper tier of the Big12 forming.
Tennessee Volunteers (-2) Hard to fault the Vols for a close loss to a very good Georgia team. Joey Aguilar looks great and Tennessee should continue to be dangerous.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (+0) Walloped Houston Christian. Not much to say about this.
Tulane Green Wave (+7) Great win for Tulane over a good, but flawed Duke team. The American is looking really strong at the top this year.
Texas Longhorns (-11) Hmmm Texas hasn't been nearly as impressive as you would have hoped against what should be inferior opponents. We shall see if Arch can improve with SEC play approaching.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+8) Really good win for the Tide against Wisconsin. Hard to tell if Wisconsin is any good, but seems like DeBoer might have successfully course corrected after the opening loss to Florida State.
California Golden Bears (+10) Cal might actually be legitimately good this year and freshman phenom Sagapolutele is amazing to watch! Great win for the Golden Bears over Minnesota this week.
Utah Utes (+7) No doubt against Wyoming. Massive match-up next week against Texas Tech with serious Big12 title implications already.
