Overall Rationale: Early season rankings are based largely on expected results versus other ranked teams, and as the season goes leans more heavily on actual resume. By the end of the season, rankings are based entirely on resume. I lean heavily into head to head results and results against common opponents. I also sort teams into 6 tiers based on championship/playoff likelihood. Tier 1: Championship Frontrunners, near lock to make playoffs Tier 2: Championship Contenders with excellent chance of making playoffs Tier 3: Decent possibility to make playoffs, unlikely to compete for championship Tier 4: Outside playoff shot Tier 5: Unlikely to make playoffs but not quite eliminated Tier 6: No shot at playoffs

2 Oregon Ducks Tier 1. Oregon hates OSU. Any OSU.
3 Penn State Nittany Lions Tier 2. Defense looks great but I have questions about the offense.
4 Georgia Bulldogs Tier 2. Struggled more with Austin Peay than I thought they would. Big test @Tenn up next.
5 Miami Hurricanes Tier 3.
6 LSU Tigers Tier 3. Clemson win isn't as impressive as it seemed at first. La Tech's defense gave their offense a bit of trouble.
7 Texas Longhorns Tier 3.
8 Florida State Seminoles Tier 3.
9 Oklahoma Sooners Tier 3. Good win over solid Michigan team. If they get past Auburn they should be 5-0 when they play Texas.
10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tier 3.
11 Illinois Fighting Illini Tier 4.
12 Alabama Crimson Tide Tier 4. Oof. Poor ULM
13 USF Bulls Tier 4. Two great wins to start the season. If they beat Miami they're in the driver's seat for a playoff spot.
14 Utah Utes Tier 4. This is the team we thought they'd be last year.
15 South Carolina Gamecocks Tier 4. Slow start against SC State and VT win doesn't look as good.
16 Texas A&M Aggies Tier 4.
17 Tennessee Volunteers Tier 4.
18 Michigan Wolverines Tier 4. 11 point loss on the road to a top ten team isn't damning, but offense needs to improve.
19 Clemson Tigers Tier 4. This team does not look good. Road test against GT next week.
20 Indiana Hoosiers Tier 4.
21 Ole Miss Rebels Tier 4.
22 Iowa State Cyclones Tier 4.
23 Florida Gators Tier 4. Not gonna get any easier going forward. Baton Rouge next week.
24 Auburn Tigers Tier 4. Baylor win looking pretty good now.
25 Texas Tech Red Raiders Tier 4.
