Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2025 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 7, 2025, 4:18 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. At this stage in the season, if you lost to someone, you have to be below that team. Normally I qualify this with "if you have the same record" but there's no reason for that when teams have played between 1 and 3 games. Anyway, I'm reactionary to what you do week-to-week, with some amount of preseason still considered, but I don't mind having drastic movements at the beginning. For example, Clemson vs LSU was judged as a top 10 matchup for some people in the preseason (not me), but I did boost LSU up and not have Clemson totally plummet last week. However, Clemson and LSU looking awful vs Troy and Louisiana Tech respectively have convinced me that the sloppiness was not just due to first game jitters, but was simply not a matchup of top 15 teams, at least right now. Clemson falls all the way out and LSU drops significantly to #17. South Carolina's abysmal performance vs a SC State team that regularly loses by 60 made them drop out as well. Don't be fooled by the score, they were outgained by SC State and their offense only scored 17. I only had them as a fringe top 25 team to begin with, but still. Having them #10 while Vandy is #41 makes absolutely zero sense if you compare their results vs Virginia Tech AND their results vs FCS teams. Florida wasn't ranked for me beforehand so their loss wasn't surprising to me. Arizona State's loss WAS surprising, and them and SMU drop out after losses. Baylor's win over SMU doesn't bring them into the top 25 but boosts Auburn a few spots up. Missouri's win vs Kansas was impressive, as was Vandy's turnaround mid-game vs Virginia Tech. Other things of note are Penn State and Georgia dropped a few spots with poor showings vs overmatched opponents, Iowa State continuing to look good, and USF's road win over UF. They only moved up a little bit in my rankings because they were already top 10 last week. A win over Miami this week would probably mean a #1 ranked USF for me. Tennessee's win over Syracuse looks worse after the Syracuse-UConn overtime game, BYU is underrated, and Indiana is overhated. I'll have more to say in the reddit comments when the full poll is released I'm sure, but be sure to tell me how stupid I am!
