Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2024 Week 16 & Bowls

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Dec. 10, 2024, 12:04 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. I know everyone has their order that everything "should" be in according to the CFP and everyone tends to gravitate towards those over the course of the season, but I'm sticking to the way I've seen it all along. I tried not to punish teams too hard for losing conference championship games and heavily rewarded winning them, but I still ended up with a few teams dropping a fair bit for their losses. The only team I dropped out was Tulane, after losing their 4th game. I know I didn't want to punish conference championship game losers, but they already lost to Memphis last week and the Army game wasn't even that close, so they had to fall the couple spots down. Replacing them in the top 25 is Duke. If you put my rankings into the CFP format, you'd see I have Army, not Clemson, in as the final conference champion. However, I'd also wait to make those decisions until after Army-Navy. If Army lost to Navy, I'd put Clemson in, and an Army win would mean an Army CFP appearance. A couple miscellaneous notes: UNLV fell a bit for their second loss to Boise State, but they're also getting a boost from the fact that I consider their loss to Syracuse a case of refball stealing a win, much like how I have Miami lower due to their refball gifted wins. I don't discount the wins/losses in that case, but I do weight them less. I had SMU pretty high, and their loss made them fall a decent ways down, which I tried to avoid but the margins are super slim so it was tough. I still have Ohio State over Penn State. I don't care that Ohio State lost to Michigan, I had OSU higher last week anyway. The game with Oregon was slightly closer for Ohio State as well, so there's another data point for that.
