Blazemaster77 Ballot for 2024 Week 16 & Bowls

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Dec. 8, 2024, 7:24 p.m.

Overall Rationale: I re-evaluate every week with my new info.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks LW: 1. A deserving number one team in the nation. I’m rooting for them.
Georgia Bulldogs LW: 4 Too great wins over Texas, as well as wins over Tennessee and Clemson, also in the playoffs. Losses to two good teams after a gauntlet schedule reaffirms what I knew about Georgia all season- Georgia’s really freaking good. I think they’re going to win the championship and they have the easy path to do it.
Ohio State Buckeyes LW: 3 I’m still higher on Ohio State than pretty much anybody else – they have a great resume. At this stage, every team has a bad loss from here on, and it just so happens that Ohio State’s came in the rivalry game. they’re ahead of Penn State because they beat them on the road and Penn State lacks the quality wins that they do and they also crushed Indiana. Ohio State would be my five seed.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish LW: 5 Notre Dame moves up by doing absolutely nothing. Their win over Army looks better. 3 ranked-tier wins is 2 more than the two below them in this tier. Obviously a terrible loss but the wins outweigh it imo.
Texas Longhorns LW: 2 Texas and Penn State are interchangeable. An Edge for PSU is that Texas looked NOT GOOD in their loss to UGA. Their offence has been mediocre in the second half of the season, and they haven’t really beaten great teams. I’ll say they’ve had a bit more control in their wins than Penn State and haven’t had as poor performances and Penn State vs Bowling Green and USC. They just kinda beat a bunch of okay teams.
Penn State Nittany Lions LW: 6 Very similar resume to Texas. The committee said they wouldn’t drop teams for losing the conference championship, I kind agree. here I’m more fidgeting with them within tier now that we have another data point. (The tier was 3-6) Penn State and Texas don’t have really great wins one win over top 30 teams for each of them. I think Penn State look better in their losses, but probably worse in wins. It’s honestly a tossup
Tennessee Volunteers LW: 8 A comfortable 9 seed. 1 good win, 1 not so good loss. Just kinda there tbh
Boise State Broncos LW: 10 Ashton Jeanty for Heisman
Arizona State Sun Devils LW: 11 Jump Indiana due to their 3 top-30 wins and dominant form. They look GOOD
Indiana Hoosiers LW: 9. Get jumped just due to lack of quality wins, still deserving of a playoff spot.
SMU Mustangs LW: 7. The Grand Debate: SMU vs Bama. I give it to SMU for the same reason the committee did. I may have dropped teams for losing CCG but didn’t remove them from the tier they were in. SMU’s not leaving the playoffs for earning the right to play Clemson down to the wire, and though they lost, they still have 2 top 30 wins.
Alabama Crimson Tide LW: 12. That was likely the only set of results that would have resulted in Alabama missing the playoffs. Hey SECSPN, if you want to make the playoffs, DONT GET CLOBBERED BY 6-6 OKLAHOMA
Miami Hurricanes LW: 13. Miami is one of the teams that exists. Bosses to an all right Georgia Tech and a good Syracuse aren’t terrible, but really only one quality win over Louisville.
Ole Miss Rebels LW: 14. No reason for change. Still clobbered South Carolina and lost to not great teams. They can only blame themselves for not getting in.
South Carolina Gamecocks LW: 15. I’ve grown tiresome of South Carolina and its fan base. I was one of their biggest supporters all year, ranking them higher than the average voter for pretty much the whole season and now when matched up against two teams they LOST to (one of them not being close), fans are trying to argue for “quality losses “ being the difference. They’re doing the exact thing we mock Bama fans for. It was a good season, but the SEC and the refs did screw them out of a playoff spot against LSU, they just didn’t know it at the time, which is honestly really funny.
BYU Cougars LW: 16 I think you can make the argument that BYU should be higher, but it really doesn’t matter at this stage. Before we beaten three bowl eligible teams, granted those were all good wins, but it’s disappointing. Seeing my once third rank team fall this far.
Clemson Tigers LW: UR I aired out my grievances last week with Clemson, they showed me up and finally be a good team; and because of that have qualified for the playoffs beating only two teams with a winning record. They earned it; but they just got ridiculously lucky.
Army West Point LW: 20. I think Army surprised us all by crushing a good Tulane team. They still had a ridiculously easy schedule, And got destroyed by Notre Dame, but they end the season on a very high note before their battle with Navy.
Iowa State Cyclones LW: 17 this team was never that great compared to BYU at least, they just got lucky and had the tiebreaker and easy schedule. They fall behind because they play Kansas and Arizona State worse.
Syracuse Orange LW: 18 Eight bowl eligible victories, and Syracuse is one of the most underrated teams in the country. Flipping the ACC on its head, they’ve got two wins over ranked teams, including one on the road. A great season in Fran Brown’s first year.
UNLV Rebels LW: 19 All their losses coming to ranked teams, I’m not gonna fault them too much for losing the CCG. Great season and even a couple of P4 wins.
Memphis Tigers LW: 21. 10-2 is pretty good no matter what. Good season for the tigers. Hopefully can get into the AAC CCG next year.
Louisville Cardinals LW: 22 Blowout win over Clemson looks much better. Easily the best for loss team, with all but one of their losses coming to ranked opponents by single scores and by destroying a playoff team on the road.
Texas A&M Aggies LW: 23 Still destroyed Missouri, so ahead of them. Loss to Texas looks a little bit worse.
Missouri Tigers LW: 24 They’ve been overrated all season, but I’m not gonna lose my mind over an inconsequential seed. Behind A&M because they got destroyed by them.
