Ballot Type: Hybrid

Overall Rationale: Though I'm sure this ballot will be high on unusualness again, I am generally happy with it. The SEC can eat dirt after that performance and I will not apologize for ranking Duke high. Stop disrespecting my boys with your brand name bias and stigma. Otherwise, I think it did well. The ranking system I use is automated, but requires a lot of manual input of data, so I try to limit the iterations I let it run in. The ranking works by assigning each team both a score and a tier. The tier is simple, based simply on the number of losses. Within a tier, a team gets a score based on ranks and for losses, rank of opponents, Vegas, and W-L upsets. Estimates are also calculated for top performers of each tier to see if they may be better than team in the tier above. W-L takes priority over everything else and creates a phenomena I called adoption, where teams with a HTH in a tier may adopt a team if the opponent who lost has a higher within rank score, creating certain limits. Basically functions like classic inheritance in computer programming. All of this is then optimized through SCF for rank consistency with iteration, though this is rarely to cycle limits. Finally, I occasionally intervene through direct challenges between teams where extended HTH of minimal distance is considered to directly compare teams. Since this is tedious with my current build, I only do so if something appears truly egregious and have time.
Rank | Team | Reason |
---|---|---|
| Oregon Ducks | With the other undefeated falling, there is but one choice! Up next Washington. |
| Ohio State Buckeyes | Lost by 1 point to Oregon. Makes them 2nd. Up next the fake game against a terrible Michigan team. |
| Boise State Broncos | Lost by 3 points to Oregon. Makes them 3rd. Up next Oregon State. |
| Penn State Nittany Lions | Lost by a touchdown to Ohio State placing them at 8 below Oregon. Coincidentally this is the same as UNLV with 5 point loss to Boise State. I give the Nittany Lions the edge due to tier privilege. Up next Maryland. |
| UNLV Rebels | Good team, very underrated. Syracuse loss still haunts. |
| Indiana Hoosiers | Losses in a bit of a blowout versus Ohio State. Up next Purdue. |
| Texas Longhorns | Defeats Kentucky in decent fashion. Up next the historic in-state rivalry reborn. Too bad TAMU had to s*** the bed against Auburn. |
| Miami Hurricanes | Takes care of Wake Forest. Up next Syracuse. |
| Notre Dame Fighting Irish | Defeats former #1 Army, proving them to be frauds. Up next USC. |
| Army West Point | Fraud exposed. Up next UTSA. |
| SMU Mustangs | ACC berth obtained. UVA decimated. Up next Cal. |
| Tulane Green Wave | Rested. Up next Memphis. |
| Duke Blue Devils | Defeats Virginia Tech in a nailbiter. Up next Wake Forest for the final in-state rivalry game. |
| Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns | Beat up Troy. Up next ULM. Probably still too high but oh well. South Alabama loss is quite inexcusable. |
| Georgia Bulldogs | Defeats cupcake. Up next Clean, Old Fashioned Hate against a feisty Georgia Tech. |
| Arizona State Sun Devils | Up next a rivalry game against a floundering Arizona. |
| BYU Cougars | Lost to ASU, propelling them down. |
| Ole Miss Rebels | Lost to Florida lmao. Still better than Tennessee though. Up next Egg Bowl against garbage. |
| Tennessee Volunteers | Beat up UTEP. Up next Vandy. |
| Clemson Tigers | Defeats cupcake. Up next Palmetto Bowl against a feisty South Carolina. |
| Iowa State Cyclones | Defeats Utah in a similar nailbiter to Duke. huh. Up next Farmageddon against a feisty Kansas State. |
| Memphis Tigers | Rested. Up next Tulane. |
| Marshall Thundering Herd | Defeats ODU. Unfortunately the destruction caused by Alabama's terrible loss has caused a few weird issues with other 3-loss teams. So Marshall profits. Up next a 1000-yard stare JMU. |
| Illinois Fighting Illini | Defeats Rutgers. Up next Northwestern. |
| Louisville Cardinals | Still the best 4-loss. Up next Kentucky. [Omitted (tentative rank): Alabama (#32) falls like a turd after blowing it big time against Oklahoma. This limits Texas A&M (#34) who also s*** the bed, and by HTH SCar (#33) who actually did their job. Also Mizzou (#35) but who cares. Colorado (#30) is back to being worse than KSU] |
