Overall Rationale: Try to match efficiency metrics with quality of wins and losses. Basically an objective ranking, with an eye test tweak. But this week, I had to somewhat throw the objectiveness out the window. There are too many 3 loss teams with similar resumes, and I had to take head-to-head and recent results into account. For example, big drop off after #12 down to the 3-loss SEC teams. Ole Miss and Bama beat South Carolina, who beat A&M, so that feels like a reasonable ranking of the 4. Likewise for K-state over colorado. What an unfortunate situation - finally there's parity in the SEC, and no other league (apart from kind of the ACC, who might send 3 to the playoff?) stepped up with enough valid teams to hold them out. Unfortunate year for the start of the 12-team. |||||| Not much activity at the bottom this week - the teams who lost were all pretty firmly in the rankings already. Dropped out: Memphis (24, attrition - Missouri below them looked solid). New this week: Kansas State (22 - back in after a strong win to right the ship, and loss to Arizona State is looking less concerning by the week). Next few out, in order: Illinois, Memphis, Syracuse, Louisville, Florida (! - yes, Florida, two strong ranked wins in a row is enough to get you close with 5 losses), Kansas (!!!! - yes, Kansas, 3 strong ranked wins in a row is enough to get you close with 6 losses if we're factoring in both resume and who is the "best" current 25).
