Muffinnnnnnn Ballot for 2024 Week 13

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Nov. 19, 2024, 5:05 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses matter most. If you have the same record as a team and beat them, you must be ahead of that team wherever possible. This ranking felt more like a crapshoot than normal because of how flawed each team is. I have a 5 team SEC conga line from 10 to 14. UGA > Tennessee > Bama is a circle of suck, but I went with that order due to how long ago the Bama-UGA game was. I don't tend to use the date a game is played as a data point, but I will in a circle situation like that. I put Ole Miss above the rest due to their dominating win over Georgia, and Texas below the rest since they got dominated at home vs Georgia, and don't have any great win. Leaving my top 25 this week after losses are (former) #17 Kansas State, #20 Louisiana, #21 Louisville, and #24 LSU. Joining the top 25 to fill in are (current) #20 UNLV, #22 Arizona State, #24 Iowa State, and #25 Illinois. I didn't drop BYU as far as I initially was going to because of their win vs SMU. SMU being good is propping them up right now, but if BYU loses again, that win won't keep them in the top 15. South Carolina jumped up after their win vs Mizzou and other losses around them. I had Washington State very high, so that loss to New Mexico (shoutout to the Lobos btw <3) dropped them a lot, although they stay in the top 25 for now. Indiana-Ohio State and Army-Notre Dame will give us clarity on two of the three remaining undefeated teams, and I can't wait. Another game of massive importance is BYU-Arizona State, which is basically an elimination game for the Big 12 championship. South Carolina, Miami, Tulane, and UNLV are all interesting cases because their position is somewhat altered by refball. Each of those teams has a game where the outcome was decided off of a bad call. South Carolina's loss to LSU, multiple Miami wins, with the most obvious to me being vs Cal, Tulane's loss to Kansas State, and UNLV's loss to Syracuse. All of those games had some serious refball which, to me, altered the result of the game. So due to that, while I do count the final results, I softly adjust the teams up or down to consider the refball moments. It's very late as I type this, so I'm gonna cut it a bit short there. Feel free to let me know how stupid I am!
