quantum_jedi Ballot for 2024 Week 10

Ballot Type: Computer

Submitted: Oct. 28, 2024, 11:37 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Wins and losses are weighted by the difference in "rank" between the winner/loser and the median team. Scaled such that beating strong teams matters more than beating weak teams, and losing to bad teams is worse than losing to strong teams. Winning is weighted slightly more than losing. Results are now (as of week 4) scaled by offensive and defensive points per drive efficiencies, and strength of schedule determined by cumulative opponents score. Preseason rankings are weighted by returning production, talent composite, and previous season success. Next five out: Colorado, Missouri, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Arizona State.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks (+0) The Ducks look like, and are playing like, the most complete in all of CFB. Look for Oregon to roll Michigan next.
Penn State Nittany Lions (+0) Solid win over Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions stay perfect despite losing Allar for the second half. Massive matchup next week against Ohio State.
Texas Longhorns (+1) Pulled out a win against a good Vanderbilt team. Something looks off with Texas ever since getting bullied by Georgia.
Miami Hurricanes (-1) Comfortable win over the husk of FSU.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+3) Dominant win over a really good Navy team. This defense is legit.
Indiana Hoosiers (-1) Slow start against a struggling Washington, but Tayven Jackson didn't make many mistakes. Indiana has yet to trail this season.
BYU Cougars (+3) Don't let the final score fool you, BYU rolled UCF. The Holy War is next for BYU, but don't expect much from Utah...
Ohio State Buckeyes (+3) Good win against a good Nebraska team, but OSU is struggling to punish inferior teams (at least on paper). Massive game next week against Penn State. The real test will be if this o-line can hold against the PSU defensive front.
Georgia Bulldogs (-3) Idle. Dropped due to other teams around them having impressive wins.
Iowa State Cyclones (-3) Idle. Dropped due to other teams around them having impressive wins.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+4) Absolutely dominated Mizzou and exactly what this team needed.
Clemson Tigers (-3) Idle. Dropped due to the shuffle of other teams.
Kansas State Wildcats (+0) That was closer than ideal, but winning rivalry games is always a good thing.
Pittsburgh Panthers (+3) Crushed the Orange, but this might be more on Syracuse throwing three pick-sixes in the first half. Classic Narduzzi defense with a competent offense.
Texas A&M Aggies (+3) Excellent win over LSU. This team looks so much better under Elko. A&M is a serious contender to make the SEC Championship game.
Tennessee Volunteers (-2) Idle. Dropped due to the shuffle of other teams. Intriguing matchup against Kentucky next.
Ole Miss Rebels (+4) Good win over a spiraling Oklahoma team. Get a fiesty Arkansas team on the road before Georgia comes to town.
Washington State Cougars (+4) Solid win over SDSU. Mateer and the Coug offense is so much fun.
LSU Tigers (-7) Got mauled in the second half by A&M. On bye next, then a huge game against Alabama where both teams need to win to stay in the playoff hunt.
SMU Mustangs (+4) Great win over Duke in an epic game. SMU is now 7-1 and in the hunt for an ACC title.
Memphis Tigers (+7) Snuck out a win after a furious rally from Charlotte. The American is tightly clustered at the top and the final few weeks should be very interesting to watch.
Boise State Broncos (+14) Excellent win over UNLV. Jeanty was held to "only" 128 yards rushing, which would be a season high for 90+% of FBS running backs. Get SDSU on a short week.
Army West Point (+0) Idle. Unfortunately Bryson Daily doesn't play for a name brand otherwise he should be getting an invite to New York later this fall. Army should obliterate Air Force next week, then will have two season defining games.
Duke Blue Devils (-5) Tough loss against SMU in overtime. Another massive game next against Miami.
Illinois Fighting Illini (-5) No shame in losing to the #1 team in the country, but Illinois looked noncompetitive against Oregon. Hopefully the Illini can bounce back against Minnesota next.
