TristanARoss Ballot for 2024 Week 10

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 27, 2024, 2:42 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I watch as many games as I can, get a feel for how things played out over the week, keep track of results, and then compare teams to both how they did this week, and how they've done across the season. I keep in mind SOS and SOV. Admittedly, this is a weird week for the middle of the pack; Clemson and Iowa State didn't play, the team directly ahead of them lost, and nearly every team immediately behind them won... lot of hard choices made there.

Rank Team Reason
Oregon Ducks No brainer here.
Penn State Nittany Lions A win while Georgia not playing lets them jump them.
Georgia Bulldogs
Texas Longhorns Tight win over Vandy bumps them up a spot. Stays under Georgia on their bye since, well, Georgia beat 'em just last week.
Miami Hurricanes Ladies and gentlemen? This is Miami No. 5. Sure, it's all against unranked teams, but it's not like they're all outright bad. Well, except for FSU this week.
Ohio State Buckeyes Yes, OSU won. Yes, they drop two. Their loss to Oregon (in bewildering fashion) last week hurts them, and a sloppy, close win over Nebraska doesn't look all that great. OSU in general is just playing really sloppy football as of late.
Tennessee Volunteers
BYU Cougars A win to go 8-0 while the two teams ahead of you are on bye is gonna get you moving on up.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Big win over #24 Navy has Notre Dame back in the top 10.
Clemson Tigers
Texas A&M Aggies Solid win against a school ranked higher than you? Up you go.
Indiana Hoosiers It's been a great year for the Hoosiers, and a win over Washington moves them up one, paired with the fact they're now 8-0.
Iowa State Cyclones
Alabama Crimson Tide Shutting out Mizzou is a good way to move up a spot. A, spot. Don't think I forgot about your loss to Vandy, 'Bama. Tennessee, too. You still got some proving to do.
LSU Tigers Tough loss paired with weirdness in the middle rankings (two teams on bye, plenty of teams winning) has them moving down more places than they usually would.
Kansas State Wildcats Nice win against your in-state rival! You're standing pat at 16 though. Sorry, but Kansas is just BAD. Beating them doesn't do much else but justify keeping you here.
Ole Miss Rebels Good win over Oklahoma brings them up one.
Boise State Broncos Well, that wasn't the best win in the world. If it were more convincing, there might've been argument to having you retake #17. But alas. Up one you go.
Pittsburgh Panthers Nice win over Syracuse, but it doesn't really do much to move you any. We'll check back with you after seeing how you do against SMU next week.
SMU Mustangs What a game! Winning it paired with Illinois and Mizzou losses has you moving up a few places.
Illinois Fighting Illini Ouch. But I mean, c'mon, it was Oregon.
Army West Point
Washington State Cougars A nice rally to beat SDSU has them pull up to #23. It's been a solid year for the Cougs, and I feel that the AP should've had them in the Top 25 since week 8, personally.
Michigan Wolverines Welcome back! A win over your in-state rival helps. The fact schools in the rankings dropped out cause they lost helps even more.
Missouri Tigers That was an ugly, and I mean UGLY, loss. I don't feel compelled to drop you from the rankings entirely just yet, but I won't deny that I thought about it.
