big_thunder_man Ballot for 2024 Week 7

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Oct. 8, 2024, 1:43 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Combination of SOR, head to head, and perceived quality of offense and defense. I try to watch lots of tape.

Rank Team Reason
Texas Longhorns 5-0. BYE. Undefeated, has a big road win (Mich, although that is not aging well). Top #10 SOR on ESPNs.
Oregon Ducks 5-0. Beat Michigan St, and it was not as close as the final score indicates. #6 in ESPNs SOR, but Boise State is still their best win. Game against Oregon State may be for the #1 spot next week.
BYU Cougars 5-0. BYE. Do they deserve it? I don't know. Leaning heavily into ESPN's SOR, where they are cumulatively #1.
Miami Hurricanes 6-0. Shouldn't have beat Cal -- the refs helped a lot. But with 8 mins left and down two scores, there was NO DOUBT in the stadium, or with anyone watching, that Miami could win. That means something. And so does the #2 SOR on ESPN.
Indiana Hoosiers 6-0. Windiana! #10 SOR, and a decent offense. Honestly, doing alot of work in the 4th to make the Northwestern win not look so close.
Penn State Nittany Lions 5-0. Beat a 1-4 UCLA. Felt sluggish in the game, and I don't believe in their offense.
Iowa State Cyclones 5-0. Beat a fierce Baylor team -- and for the first time this season -- they didn't make it close. Went into into half up 5, and then won by 22.
Ohio State Buckeyes 5-0. Beat Iowa, after they nearly shut them down in the first half. Oregon game will be insane.
Alabama Crimson Tide 4-1. Why are they still top 10? Because their SOR is incredible, and that Georgia win is still insane.
Georgia Bulldogs 4-1. Beat Auburn (which is not good), and it was not a particularly great win. Hard to judge them. Alabama has the H2H, so will be ranked ahead as long as their schedules are comparable.
Boise State Broncos 4-1. Jeanty is the Heisman favorite, and their only loss is a 3 point loss to my #2 team that they should have beaten.
Kansas State Wildcats 4-1. BYE. Loss to a very good BYE team, and win over what may not be a good OSU team. Colorado game will be great. One of the two of them will be a contender.
Pittsburgh Panthers 5-0. Snuck past a very malleable UNC by 34-24. Somehow ranked #5 in ESPNs SOR?
SMU Mustangs 5-1. HUGE jump up into the rankings for our pony boys. Why? Because their only loss was against BYU. At the time, we assumed they both sucked. Now, we realize they were both pretty good. Nobody left on their schedule should beat them.
Tennessee Volunteers 4-1. Lost to Arkansas. Dropping them big because I think their schedule was a bit overrated, and they're somewhat exposed.
Clemson Tigers 4-1. BYE. Georgia manhandled them, but they've run up the margins since.
Nebraska Cornhuskers 5-1. That Rutgers game was........ pain. Nebraska games used to be painful viewing then a loss. Now it's painful viewing, and a loss. They're not favored vs Indiana or Ohio State. Temporary peak in their rankings.
Colorado Buffaloes 4-1. BYE. Impressive wins over... Baylor and UCF. Yeah, no. Let's check back after Kansas State.
Texas A&M Aggies 5-1. I correctly called that Mizzo wasn't that great. TAMU is probably going to boat race Miss St.
Texas Tech Red Raiders 5-1. I don't want to rank them, especially after Week 1, and week 2, but they've run through three Big 12 teams in a row.
Utah Utes 4-1. BYE. Dropping because we don't know their status of their QB, and their offense doesn't roll well without it.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 4-1. I mean, everyone has beat Louisville and Purdue. That's not exactly impressive. And Northern Illinois isn't exactly the greatest. I refuse to believe they're a "good" team. Fight me, Peacock.
LSU Tigers 4-1. I mean, they lost to a now unranked USC, and beat 4 TERRIBLE teams since. Don't blame me for not having them highly.
Army West Point 5-0. Weak SOR until their Notre Dame and Navy games.
Navy Midshipmen 5-0. Weak SOR, but handled Memphis and Air Force. Notre Dame game will be a serious test.
