Overall Rationale: Early season rankings are based largely on expected results versus other ranked teams, and as the season goes leans more heavily on actual resume. By the end of the season, rankings are based entirely on resume. I lean heavily into head to head results and results against common opponents. I also sort teams into 6 tiers based on championship/playoff likelihood. Tier 1: Championship Frontrunners, near lock to make playoffs Tier 2: Championship Contenders with excellent chance of making playoffs Tier 3: Decent possibility to make playoffs, unlikely to compete for championship Tier 4: Outside playoff shot Tier 5: Unlikely to make playoffs but not quite eliminated Tier 6: No shot at playoffs

2 Ohio State Buckeyes Tier 1.
3 Oregon Ducks Tier 2.
4 Penn State Nittany Lions Tier 2.
5 Alabama Crimson Tide Tier 2. Win over Georgia is still the best win anyone has right now.
6 Georgia Bulldogs Tier 2.
7 Miami Hurricanes Tier 3. Not moving them down due to other losses, but definitely less confident in them after Cal game.
8 BYU Cougars Tier 3. Wins over SMU and Kansas State look pretty good at this point. Hard to argue they don't deserve to be ranked highly.
9 Iowa State Cyclones Tier 3. I'm surprised too. But undefeated and a few decent wins.
10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tier 4. Terrible loss, but two solid wins put them up here for now.
11 Texas A&M Aggies Tier 4. Win over Mizzou was dominant, and win over Arkansas looks better after this week.
12 Utah Utes Tier 4.
13 Ole Miss Rebels Tier 4.
14 LSU Tigers Tier 4.
15 Kansas State Wildcats Tier 4.
16 Tennessee Volunteers Tier 4.
17 Clemson Tigers Tier 4.
18 Oklahoma Sooners Tier 4.
19 SMU Mustangs Tier 4. One loss to a top ten team and a few solid wins.
20 Pittsburgh Panthers Tier 4. No dominant showings against FBS opponents but still undefeated.
21 Boise State Broncos Tier 4. Close loss to top 5 team and a solid win over WSU.
22 Indiana Hoosiers Tier 4. 6windiana
23 Missouri Tigers Tier 4. BC win looks worse and destruction at the hands of A&M drop them a lot.
24 Washington State Cougars Tier 4. One of the tougher schedules so far. Three good wins.
25 Illinois Fighting Illini Tier 4.
